Real ERP, because what's available now is really basic and lacking a lot of advanced functionality. Another are professional CAD/3D and PLM applications, something that can compete with Autodesk, Siemens or Solidworks.

Ya I don't get why the ERPs are that bad.

As for CAD, I'd be surprised if that ever happens. The costs are so great with those that I can't believe there would be a real competitor for other CAD software.

Ive used FreeCAD but it's parametric. And I've never seen anything to compete with higher end stuff like ANSYS, ABAQUS, COMSOL, etc.

Fedora is better for active IT departments that maintain their systems. CentOS is better for companies that deploy and never maintain their systems and just hope for the best 😉

I just wonder your statement here on CentOS, while I have seen you always praise CentOS than Ubuntu. Is that praise just about CentOS vs Ubuntu ?

So your whole interest on Fedora is because it have Latest things and faster development ?

Did you solve this? If not I've just updated my phone (well replaced) with a DooGee android phone and found non of the apps were showing no unread count.

Solution was to install Nova Launcher Prime and Telsa unread count. Now have the numbers showing on screen

@Tim_G said in Google Cloud as offsite backup. How to check if it's suitable for us or no and pricing ?:

My point is that you shouldn't use "cloud" backup as a replacement for onsite backup. And if you do use something like that, it's fine if it slowly archives backups in the background, as your main on-site backups do their thing like normal, and you can restore if needed like normal.

Of course not, we already have Onsite backup and from (Onsite backup) itself I am trying to push the data to Google Cloud (for Offsite purpose).

How about selecting BA or HA, isn't there anything like that here ?

No, those cause lots of confusion. Upvote thing that are helpful. You can mark something solved, but not BA. BA doesn't say that it is solved and provides for a lot of confusion.

Unless you have intentionally restricted something, the post as question plugin allows the OP to specify a specific post as the solution.

Titles don't matter that much except for companies that literally base your pay range on it. If they are going to do that, then fight for the best paying title!

And yes, I do work for a comp that does it. I started as "IT Helpdesk" and could not get my title changed even once I began supporting Linux web servers and doing all the purchasing and essentially being responsible for all-the-things.
The person before me who remained on staff for a while was called "IT Coordinator", whatever that means.

Eventually I had to write like a 6 page letter explaining what I do and what titles actually mean and finally got my title approved to be "IT Systems Administrator" (a most appropriate and generic title for my position and duties). And then negotiated my pay as a separate thing. Plus I like calling myself a "SysAdmin" and can celebrate national SysAdmin Day.

What's funny is that when my boss would send phone calls or emails to me to do things, he would use important-sounding titles to look impressive to the other person. Like "I'll pass you on to our CTO to handle that" even though I'm no such thing, lol

Nope, I was not aware. Also there is no 70-740 in your listed offered books.
Anyhow, still I am seeing 35% discount if I wish to buy immediately.

Sales are often just one day.

@stacksofplates said in Easier guide to setup Salt Stack/Ansible for Windows environment ?:

The other advantage to tower is what Scott mentioned. It will do either a pull or fetch before the run. You don't have to do that manually like if you were just running from anAnsible server.

We use a cron job for that.

Ya you can do that. This is nice though because you don't have to add the logic to keep runs from bumping into each other. And it all goes into the auditing system built into Tower.

Theoretically, the guest system is totally isolated by the VM and cannot even "see" the host, let alone attack it; so the guest cannot break out of the VM. Of course, in practice, it has occasionally happened. An attack requires exploiting a security issue (i.e. a programming bug which turns out to have nasty consequences) in the VM implementation or, possibly, the hardware features on which the VM builds on. There are few exit routes for data out of the VM; e.g., for Internet access, the VM is emulating a virtual network card, which deals only with the lowest level packets, not full TCP/IP -- thus, most IP-stack issues remain confined within the VM itself. So bugs leading to breakout from VM tend to remain rare occurrences.

There are some kinds of attacks against which VM are very effective, e.g. fork bombs. From the point of view of the host system, the VM is a single process. A fork bomb in the guest will bring to its knees the scheduler in the guest OS, but for the host this will be totally harmless. Similarly for memory: the VM emulates a physical machine with a given amount of RAM, and will need about that amount of "real" RAM to back it up efficiently. Regardless of what the guest does, the VM will never monopolize more RAM than that. (You still want to limit VM RAM size to, say, at most 1/2 of your physical RAM size, because the extra "real" RAM is handy for disk caching; and the host OS will want to use some, too.)

Taken into account that malware/ransomware is implemented on the file level, the best method of protection would be based on a block level recovery tool.

In addition, the best way to overlook the possibility of loosing your data would be the implementation of the the 3-2-1 rule. Its a quite common safety measure in the data infrastructure. We actually implement it quite often, it is based on the replication of your data between 3 nodes as well as creating 2 real-time replication copies of the data between the nodes and storing a single copy of your data in a VTL on the cloud.

For any other additional information, I would like to suggest you to take a look at the following article - https://knowledgebase.starwindsoftware.com/explanation/the-3-2-1-backup-rule/

@TAHIN said in Microsoft Teams ready for Production ?:

Teams and Slack both set out to solve an incredibly big problem with email: conversation-based collaboration. I really want to love it because if you run analysis on the type of email that flows between users of an organization, 70% of it is 'read once and delete' or one-liners. It's like supercharged IM. It took a while to wrap my head around the whole idea, but now I can see the overall potential, and it's staggering. But the OP comment regarding external user limitations is why we're not pursuing it. Having project collaboration for our internal users on Teams and having to import emails from external users would add too much overhead and confusion, and be a training nightmare.

Other reasons we're not using it:

A lot of documentation doesn't exist yet. Such as if we roll this out, we'll have archiving / legal hold requirements. Doesn't have the kind of 3rd party product integrations that Outlook has, which we rely on.

We're actually fully licensed for it, wouldn't cost anything, but the use case isn't quite there until it can include everyone. We'll probably re-visit it in 12-18 months.

Same here, we are licensed for it and turn it off. Just doesn't make sense for us.

Snipe-IT would be the best option and yes import works without any issues. I recently setup Snipe-IT and imported our age old excel sheet inventory ( need to work on the formatting a bit to match Snipe-IT format, and for that all i did was to just create one asset and exported that to csv) But if you get the chance, i would say take time and build your database just for the major models, machine types and location and that will help you on the long run.

We have Spiceworks setup. People email an address we have setup for help. Spiceworks sucks in the email and creates the ticket. Other than when we respond out of it people don't know anything about the ticketing system. You can really change how and when Spiceworks sends out emails, making it almost invisible to the end user. I recommend some type of ticketing system just for tracking purposes.

You can install and trial it, you get 50 GB free when I was working there, for like 2 weeks and do whatever you want. No credit card required.

Think about it as very advanced client for Amazon Glacier storage for windows clients, sadly they only have good Windows and Android clients. Plus point for supporting Dedup in backups, if you have windows 10 ISO file that is already uploaded, they will not upload it again.

if you want to backup NAS, they will tell you to mount it on Windows machine and select it to get uploaded.

And their Technical support team is awesome, I was there (5 years ago) what more do you want.
