User abuse is the only bug we can't fix with technology.

Good to know eseutil was able to correct the issue.

Even that was just very weird. The status had stopped updating and processes associated with it quit doing anything for around 20 minutes. We were both wondering what was going on when I was like "I'm going to ctrl+c it." So the cancel current command actually kicked off a whole bunch of activity that went quite quickly compared to what it had been running at before and actually repaired the DB. We were both more than a little confused over that one.

I like Crashplan and it works well enough that I'm just going to suck it up and pay the $10 a month for the "business" edition since it works with Linux and all that jazz.

I will likely use Unison to get all my devices into a central folder on the computer that runs my crashplan backups, and then I don't have to worry about it any more.

Rolling back around to this... LastPass just got it right, I have no idea what changed on that end: bad feeling.

LOL well kudos to them for finally getting it right at least 🙂

I never had an issue with Sodium and LP.

Sounds to me like there might have been an issue somewhere between the chair and the keyboard for Travis on this one :).

What ever gave you that idea.... not like I haven't missed the difference between the one word in the popup box that says "replace" instead of "add" before... really.

I think that while it would be great, older XenServer is going to be out of scope, at least for a really long time, with Sodium. There are a lot of barriers there and a really small use case. Now the current XenServer might be a different matter. Has anyone looked at that at all?

Yeah, while I had a system available I figured looking to see if it would "just work" made sense. But the version of Python is to old, and it's a huge hassle to get a newer version installed at best.

Time to update to XS 7 and test 😉

Yeah, if I had any way to get my own OS installed it would've already been. Another server at WholeSaleInternet.

They don't let you install an OS there? And they don't keep the ones that they offer updated?

They give you a choice, and they always seem to be a little behind. One big reason why it's only every going to be a home lab environment for me and not a recommended service for any company.

I usually take the local express bus from the airport to my hotel when I come into town. But then I take a taxi on the leaving day because hang over.

Last year at MC I took the stupid 5AM shuttle back to the airport with a hangover. It was awful.

I might need to investigate Wine again, when I tried it, things were rough to say the least.

I haven't run Wine in a while, but when last I tried, any app that needed SSL did not work. Browsers couldn't do HTTPS, any app that tried to do encryption or anything like that would fail... If they'd fix that a lot more games and online things would work.

Interesting, had no idea about this.

This is relatively recent as well, like in the Wine 1.9 & 2.0 branches.

Good to know, I was just debating on switching my gaming machine over recently, glad I didn't if this recent hiccup is going to cause issues.

Steam under Wine worked well, as did several of my games. But WOW did not.

It doesn't matter. The hardware footprint with the bastardized Debian built for the Raspberri Pi just doesn't work well.

Got back to this yesterday. Running on CentOS7 as a base (best of the default options the hosting provider has/had.) Easy management through the remote virt-manager and ssh.

@Tim_G turned me onto Kimchi as a secondary management interface as well. I've successfully installed wok and kimchi, but haven't opened the port yet, will get that done tonight after grabbing an ssl cert.

Also got the first vm uploaded last night, tomorrow looks to be a big day in my home lab.

I'd like to see recent references; everything I have found hasn't been updated / linked to since 2019 about the 2014-2015 incident.

      What has changed? Nothing.

Why should anyone keep reporting no news?

Exactly - There's nothing newer because they haven't been caught doing any dirty shit in the past 2-3 years. But at the same time - the same management is in charge, so why would we expect them to do things right?

I think that they've been caught. It's just so unimportant to American consumers if Chinese companies are spying on them that literally reporting it has no value.

@scottalanmiller likes to live dangerously on road trips! Taco Bell is great for a cheap meal, but often times is a cause of distress.

Never bothers me like that. Not at all, in fact it's one of the mildest meals that I can eat.

@scottalanmiller said in Phoronix with another file system performance test, F2FS and brtfs.:

Remember that BtrFS like ZFS is designed for everything except performance. Being fast was never expected or intended to the goals of filesystems of these types. Anyone looking for performance from them is quite lost. They are "fast enough" for sure, but never were they expected to compete with traditional filesystems that do so much less.

While I generally agree, I'd hate to have btrfs or XFS as the backing storage for XenServer, even at small scale single server settings.

      But...

Why? Why do you feel that a tiny bit of filesystem performance is going to be a big deal in most cases? What is driving you to react in that way to it? XFS is super fast, the polar opposite of BtrFS. Why would you hate both? What would make you happy?

      Doh, meant ZFS, not XFS.

Considering how many people clamor to get ZFS or BtrFS for virtualization then rave about the performance, I think that the reaction proves the point - the performance never mattered in the first place 🙂
