It's another type of system I can work with, so I'll figure out what I did wrong with this one, and then do the other.

@scottalanmiller But does FreeBSD also support AFP, NFS, and CIFS compatibility?

@scottalanmiller Hmm. Well, I suppose I can do FreeBSD then, but I do want to know what I'm doing wrong here, first.

@scottalanmiller FreeNAS is more consumer friendly. Going to be using this NAS for Pictures, Music, and Videos, so I figured that FreeNAS was the better choice. Firewall ports are open (It's also on the LAN).

    • FreeNAS setup help?

So I've got an instance of FreeNAS spun up, with the ZFS volume mounted, and a Windows (CIFS) setup, and it is accessible via the Web UI (reached by entering the server's IP). Everything on my network can see the FreeNAS as a device, but the connection is denied from all other PCs and Macs. Guest logging is enabled, and full Read/Write is enabled as well. To connect to it, I've been trying from both the Homegroup tab, and by navigating to \\IP\Drive\CIFS Partition

Any advice on how to get this to work?

@scottalanmiller Some of the "Logic" circuitry that you can do with redstone is quite in depth, you can build computers, clocks, and complex machinery with it. Beyond that, it's mostly mods that give it true entertainment value.

@Dashrender Servers are either hosted across large networks, with plugins allowing multiple physical servers to run a single world, or have relatively low player limits. The most popular, though, seems to be someone hosting it on their PC for a few friends.

@scottalanmiller Yeah, Minecraft is EXTREMELY inefficient. Even on singleplayer, it's laughably bad. For high render distance and maximum settings, on a cluttered world, my FX 8350, 16GB of RAM, and GTX 970 don't always keep it above 60 FPS. And if you're going to run a shader pack? Forget it, I only get like 18 FPS.

@coliver Mods do require more RAM by a bit. If a vanilla server runs fine with 8GB, and say, 10 people, I would recommend 12GB if you're gonna add mods and still have 10 people. @scottalanmiller The typical vanilla server should have 4GB just for running the server itself, and then 512MB for every person on the server, as a minimum for smooth and stable performance.
I know back in 1.3.7, it used to not even boot the server if you had any less than 2GB allotted.

@thecreativeone91 And when you don't have enough RAM, it doesn't have enough space to cache all the data, which is what it does normally. And it's from that cache that the world saves from. So it will cram in what it can, that's changed since the last save, and everything else will get chopped off. It's designed to do this as seamlessly as possible, though, so it will approximate and not do horrible things to your map 😛

@scottalanmiller My bad, I misunderstood what was going on here. They want help with managing the existing server. That I can do!

@scottalanmiller Oh, my bad. Didn't read into it enough I guess, sorry. Shall I start another thread for another server, then?

    • RE: Minecraft Server is Live!

@scottalanmiller Oh, I mean hosting it here. If you want to keep the world, etc. as well, just zip it and send it to me. I've got a lot more processing power here. You /should/ have 512MB of RAM for every player on the server for it to run correctly without massive lag spikes.

    • RE: Minecraft Server is Live!

@scottalanmiller I can make mine run 32GB, but it won't properly use more than that.

Alright, plugins are just being a royal pain. Are we up for a vanilla server? I can throw one up with a new world in 5 minutes, just takes a while to input all the command arguments to get it to properly use more than 8GB of RAM and such.
