One of the things I enjoy most about Windows 8.1 is the ability to use a second monitor just like you would use your primary monitor. I have gotten very used to using the charm menu on my second screen
I logged on this morning and I can no longer active the charm menu when I move my mouse into the upper right corner on my second monitor. It still works fine on my primary screen. Any ideas?

@lance 2012 is still pretty poor compared to Unitrends and Veeam is my default choice for VM backup. BE 2014 is "imminent" but Im not even looking at it.
I had a feeling that this was still the case.
I think BE needs to stop the bleeding at 2012 and come out with a new backup product.
Yeah. It isnt always a bad thing to ditch an unrepairable sinking ship.
Microsoft has had to do this before (ME and Vista), just reinvent the product.

So, what'd you end up with? how do ya feel this morning?
I just had a little bit straight. I didnt have a chance to go to the beach like I wanted to. My cat's kittens have been super destructive. I got to clean up after them last night
I know Jack isnt a beach drink and its really not even my favorite liquor. I am just trying to empty the bottle
@scottalanmiller I am a blended whiskey guy
Any beach themed ideas? I may walk to the beach tonight

Speaking of conspiracies. I think this is what happened. :)Why Missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 Linked to Alien Abduction? http://beforeitsnews.com/beyond-science/2014/03/why-missing-malaysia-airlines-flight-mh370-linked-to-alien-abduction-on-social-media-2445668.html

Throw them on the Help Desk for a few calls
See how resourceful they are

Well I just had my doomsday meeting with my boss (VP of Finance) and unveiled my weeks of research into different AV programs, and ways to ensure we are as close to bulletproof as possible as we approach April 8th. I inherited quite the outdated undocumented network (long story), anyway.
I tried bringing up Linux as an alternative to XP probably six times and he kept cutting me off, that was like a cuss word to him. This guy has micro managed and scrutinized $7.50 cord purchases from Amazon, but even he doesn't want to move to Linux. I finally got to get out the perks of Linux's security through obscurity and that really there is no AV cost as well for Linux. To my surprise he skipped and didn't engage or entertain that prospective savings.
Looks like I might just get a new fleet of PCs yet.. man I might just start dropping the L word when I need things that require funding.
I am still going to familiarize myself with the distro as you never know, the CEO might veto and I genuinely think it's a great alternative. Sorry I couldn't be the guinea pig.
Is your whole IT department fluent in Linux?
What is your plan on managing PCs and retraining users for Linux?

I dont do any troubleshooting on a PC that is less than 14 days old. Especially when it comes bad out of the box. That is the vendor's problem
This morning all my SMS contacts disappeared from Google talk. Did anyone else lose SMS functionality?
Windows 7 IMO is much cheaper even if you have to buy hardware.
No more Group Policy. Since you are replacing Windows PCs, you probably have an AD environment that you can no longer take advantage of. I know you can still join them to the domain, but you definitely lose functionality and ease of central administration
User training. It doesnt matter how similiar it is to XP, some things are different. The user will lose productivity while they retrain themselves.
Compatibility issues. You may be able to get most applications to work, but I wouldn't be surprised if most vendors don't support the Mint Flavor of Linux.
It wouldnt surprise me, if they released on tablets and other mobile devices first. Its nice to have the apple hardware/software advantage when demonstrating a new OS.

Much better career options here.
Very true. Mechanics have great troubleshooting skills. To this day, I credit alot my troubleshooting abilities to all those days of a turning a wrench. Its very costly to diagnose the wrong part on most vehicles.
