Per FreePBX developer I believe Yealink hasn't been quick to follow up on compatibility testing with FreePBX releases. This was a response I got on the FreePBX forums.

Have had different transfer issues myself when using FreePBX where you would transfer and the call would ring back (with no one there) wherever the extension transferred to was not picking up the call, instead of going to voicemail.

That specific issue is PJSIP only and has a known solution. I posted it. You have to use a config file to set it though. It does not have a setting in the GUI.

If the admin and UCP portals had the responsive firewall logging failed web logins it could provide the same level of security as remote/roaming IP phones.

Yeah I suppose. I guess they take a different tack - you'd only want access if you have a phone there with you to control.

But I can see the point of why you might want access while not having an extension where you are. But this obtainable via DynDNS.

In fact, moving to smartphone apps and no phone might actually be the best solution of all. I guess it would depend upon how much data they use while not in the office.

Not really. They don't work as good as one might hope. It is usually easier for the sales person to jsut call with their mobile. everyone is expected to have one anyway.

Yeah, not that comparing to Altigen is ever valid, but the MaxMobile app is "meh" at best.

      Zoiper doesn't work?

Zoiper is just finicky at the best of times, and for whatever reason I've had no luck when on LTE instead of WiFi with it.

I use it regularly on LTE with little problem unless I am driving down 55.

Well, considering Motorola.... I'm going with the whole Lenovo breaking things.

get a real cell phone. 😉

Of course, and asap, but, money 😞

Also NXXXXXXXXX is an invalid dial pattern for NANPA. The valid pattern is NXXNXXXXXX.

You're right. I've fixed my patterns. While the invalid pattern works, it would be best to follow the standard.

It is too loose, so it would never have stopped a real call from processing.

      NXX - NPA (Area Code)
NXX - Exchange (ILEC Central Office)
XXXX - Line (Station within the Exchange)

      N = 2-9
      X = 0-9

So this menas that NPA and Exchange 3 digit numbers can never begin with a 0 or 1.

I paid $1.50 for the first year. It also depends on the domain. A lot of .coms are significantly higher.

They are all the same price. Those that are higher are not available and you are buying ones that someone already owns.

@networknerd said in Yealink Phone Provsioning Strategy:

Just out of curiosity, which PBX are you using in conjunction with the Yealink phones?

I realize this does not scale well, but when we rolled out Yealink phones,we ended up doing a manual configuration of each phone. It was simple and didn't require us to configure some kind of provisioning server. But in truth, I always wanted to setup a provisioning server to learn how to do it.

Elastix (assuming you have not migrated) and FreePBX both expose /tftpboot for this.

I do not have any Elastix instance running, but I do believe it was accessible from http as well as tftp.

In FreePBX you specify which services are available in the Firewall and SysAdmin modules.

Then you just drop the files into /tftpboot and access them however. With a local install you can use tftp or with a remote install you can use https so that the SIP credentials never go over the internet in the clear.

For example, here is my phone's (redacted) config file.

      https://fpbx.bundystl.com:1443/00156565xxxx.cfg

None of you should be able to access it, but it is redacted just in case 😛

When I navigate to the URL from an allowed network, I see it though.

Quantify your concern. What exactly are you worried will happen?

For the direct-dialing concern, I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't think my concern through fully. I suppose the worst that can happen is a department would be annoyed by potential crank calling their queue directly rather than waiting through the IVR options. But then again, they can simply memorize which single digit to press, and achieve the same thing.

If someone can dial you, they can dial you. Imagine this same discussion about email. "We have to hide our email DLs and aliases, what if people EMAILED us?!?!?"

      Um... yeah, that's the idea.

      Point taken.

Wasn't exactly a huge number, could have been just about anything for a small spike a few times.

Yeah. I was concerned because I wasn't expecting load to be greater that 0.5 when supposedly the system was idle.

I did a conference call test with it last night (the PBX itself handling the conference). Audio quality was terrible for me (softphone to PBX), but all of the participants, who called in via cell phones said the quality was fine. Not sure if these events are related. Perhaps it's just me getting anxious as I'm running out of preparation tasks before attempting to port numbers and actually deploying this thing. 🙂

@eddiejennings Another possible option is to use Jared as a paid resource if he is willing to do that. If we got along better I would hire him for x amount of hours for projects in my lab. That way when I ran into issues I could schedule time with him to go over why something is happening and the correct way to diagnose and solve the problem. This could be a valuable learning experience for you.

Unsure if he would be willing to do that, but I'm sure someone here would. I'd offer it myself but I would not be of much help. If you're going to hire someone, make sure it's someone who knows their stuff.

Also gives you (if you use GIT like we do) a record of when the port was opened, why and when it was closed again.

      How does that work?

You commit your change to your local file system on your workstation. Then you commit it to the GIT repo. When you do this, GIT stores your change as well as the previous state of the system and you add a comment when you commit. This gives you a chance to say "Opening port to work on PBX" or whatever. Then when you are all done, change the firewall back, commit it, comment again saying you are done and closing it and it closes itself.

What does the Admin > System Admin > Time Zone setting affect? Should it affect the actual system clock of the server?

      Here's my scenario:

During FreePBX Install (the OS part), do not set the time zone, which defaults to UTC. After the install, reboot, log into the FreePBX GUI. During the initial setup, you're prompted to confirm a time zone. At this time I specify EST. Reports > Asterisk Logfiles show logs in UTC (which makes sense, since from the OS perspective the time zone is UTC). Envelopes for voice mails are also in UTC.

There is a setting for this, but I cannot find it right now.

@eddiejennings said in [SIP Pricing: How much are 11.338 milliseconds worth?]

Twilio: New Jersey at 12.853 ms average ping
Voip.ms: Atlanta (Atlanta2) at 1.515 ms average ping

Still trying to figure out where you are getting Twilio New Jersey? It seems like you are talking about the VULTR data centers to your office, and not the VULTR data centers to the pops.

Twilio is 35% cheaper on inbound and at least 15% cheaper on outbound. Your DID numbers and toll free costs are irrelevant. You need to dump the DID's you arent using, maybe keep 5 extra. If you can dump half thats $600 per year.

On actual costs see below. You are clearly saving money now and any increase in call volume will only add to those savings. You could save on toll free with a couple other people, but for ease of administration I would keep it all at one place.

And remember, those PRI DID's cost the CLEC anything. I had a guy trying to port 800 DID's to me once and we ended up issuing 150 of our DID's, forwarding theres for 6 months and dumping them. My DIDs cost me nothing, porting those 800 would have cost me $200 per month and he would have been paying $800 per month to us.

      Twilio
      Inbound: 5,649 at $0.0045 / minute ($25.42)
      Outbound: 6,421 at $0.007 / minute ($44.95)

      $70.73

      VOIP.MS
      Inbound: 4,363.9 at $0.009 / minute ($39.28)
      Outbound: 5,376.3 at $0.01 / minute ($53.76)

      $93.08

And imagine these numbers in multiples. $700 versus $930.

Everything I hear about Voip.ms is good, but Twilio's infrastructure is many times larger. They are already cheaper. I cant really speak to Voip.ms but have been meaning to give them a try.
