I asked Vultr to modify the notice so that people wouldn't keep being told that they were temporarily sold out.

      Thanks.

haha I honestly didn't even reply to their message until yesterday. The slow resolution was definitely all on me.

@scottalanmiller He can all requests not coming from the IP or Subnet (Assuming on DHCP)

He can do that now. But that would make the system useless for him. The Vultr firewall might be nice for doing that, but doesn't alter the situation.

Almost certainly it is limited to certain hardware instances.

@scottalanmiller Right. So being legit in this scenario, would be so cost prohibitive, it's not possible realistically.

Exactly. It's not technically impossible, as long as Vultr would tell you the number of physical servers within the datacenter you are in and/or the number that are in a pool that your workload could be moved to, which might be any within the datacenter, or might be a subset.

Same applies to AWS and Azure I assume correct @scottalanmiller ?

      Correct, any cloud.

I don't quite get your answer..does that mean it's too easy or it's not worth the effort?

Basically yes, it is not worth the effort. You can setup apt to update automatically yourself quite trivially.

      The same for Let's Encrypt.

Reskimming, I am not sure WTF he is doing with lighttpd I would need to look closer.

But the scripting of the backup to a third party site is going to be totally custom to every install. This is way too complex to setup in a simple script.

It works for him because everything is tied to the Google account.

It's udev that has a rule with eth0 and the old mac address.
Don't know what distro you're running but try looking in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules.
Delete the line that has NAME="eth0" in it. And change the line with NAME="eth1" to eth0.
And then you have to swap back eth1 to eth0 in your network settings.

      Perfect!

I just loaded one to do some testing. Don't plan on using it for production. I may use Bluehost or Vultr on Fedora. My main reason was to get familiar with a theme and see if I like it. Then, I can destroy the instance and make it permanent and with the correct underlying OS.

      Works fine for that.

I'm hosting my unifi controller on vultr and I didn't have to make any port changes that I remember.

So you didn't open any of those ports I listed?

You do not normally need them.

What don't you normally need them? 8080 and 8443 at a minimum correct?

      Correct.

But I opened the 8880 and 8843 for HTTP and HTTPS for Guest Hotspot portal. Usually not needed for others but in this case it was needed.

      https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/205202640-UniFi-Guest-Portal-Promotional-URL-Automatic-Redirection

With regards to STUN though, you believe is not needed then?

Should not be as your controller is not behind NAT. There is not point to STUN unless NAT is involved.
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STUN

How can it mark your post as the solution?

Tell @scottalanmiller to do it because that is a glaring whole in this plugin. Has been reported, but unactioned for years now.

Hey @scottalanmiller can you mark Jared's post with Wikipedia on it for the solution. I cannot for the life of me mark it as a solution.

Also, if you wanted to, you could buy 2 😉

While that company is a good value, and where I currently run my home lab from. The first of the two servers I had with them had all kinds of drive issues, even after the HDDs were replaced. Many support cases later, I ended up just moving it all to a different server. Would never trust them to run actual workloads, sadly.

@fuznutz04 said in Vultr, Block Storage CentOS:

@travisdh1 So on second thought, I'm thinking it might be a better approach to redirect the call recordings to the block device directly, without extending the LVM volume to the block device. So it would be like this:

Attach block device and create partition and file system.
Mount the new device to a new directory (/callrecordings)
In FreePBX, point the call recordings to this new directory.

This way, the VPS disk, is still completely separate from the block device disk. In my head, this just seems cleaner, and has less potential for errors if the block device is ever unavailable.

      Thoughts?

Yes, that makes way more sense.

The only thing that made me think of that was because about 2 weeks ago Vultr NJ had some issues with block storage. If they have an issue again, at least I could still boot the VM. (although I would have to remove the block device from the fstab. But then, It should boot fine I suppose. (crosses fingers)
