@scottalanmiller Yea I've had to deal with this in the past, the software is just awful to deal with, and literally makes nothing more secure, for either the prosecution, defendant(s) or the public attempting to view the material.

Simple answer is, that it just proves how vulnerable police departments are with such horrible software requirements.

Not aware of any requirement. They just choose this kind of equipment over other options.

      I should have mentioned ---

On a small budget. so a $1,600 camera isn't going to work.

      Um WHAT?

Lumix makes high end cams for like $300. How the heck are you shopping?

I’ll have to go back and look- I was trying to do four different things and my first search may have been off.

I'm doing video conferencing stuff this week, too!

What are you deploying? I am leaning toward the higher end logitech stuff to integrate with SFB/Teams and Slack. If I do that, I will most likely pull the trigger on the Barco CSE-200+ for wireless presentation- something we haven't had before. We have just had a direct HDMI cable to a large monitor.

Cheap Logitech right now to get started. We are talking to Yealink to find out about their high end stuff. But likely we are going to go with just Logitech gear and maybe soft phones or something like that.

      YMMV

UG - all this DRM shit is just so painful. Switching from my Roku to Amazon TV takes almost a full min. and sometimes just won't switch. I end up having to power everything down and start over.

      HUGE PITA.

@jaredbusch Right. The datastores are at the hypervisor level. The vmdks would be on respective datastores and then in the VM, they would be also be shown as separate disks.

BUt then they spend a bit of effort tearing apart the value of AV and saying that it gives a false sense of security - which does not support keeping the installed AV.

I think they misspoke and were treating Defender as it's own entity.

What I have called Firewire, they call i.Link.

You can thank Apple for that... Apple trademarked "FireWire" so everyone else had to come up with their own name for IEEE1394

Well, you can thank people using Apple's term for IEEE1394. The real name is just IEEE1394. Calling it FireWire or i.Link is the issue. Just call it by its real name and it gets much clearer 🙂

      True!

I'd buy any DVR that matches the camera type that want.

And then buy the camera's separate. Any basic unit that you'd buy from Amazon are going to have crap camera's.

All you need is the software and storage space.

If you don't want to purchase a prebuilt system you could try something line ZoneMinder, and simply purchase camera's that are on the HAL.

I'm a fan of Brent Ozar http://www.brentozar.com/blog/ though my knowledge of SQL Server is very limited. He sounds like he knows what he's talking about but I wouldn't know if he does or not. I haven't paid for any of their training videos, but I've watched a few of the free ones.

The entire point of the Mac Platform is to allow you to be more creative because hardware issues are minimized because of standardization and the removal of low end hardware. There is no cheap underperforming barely have enough specs to survive systems that I have to work around.

This is specious at best. Though the MacBook Pro has legit hardware it's the software, OS X, that glitters almost every single action you can take on the laptop w/ latency and sporadic slow. The HiDPI approach is nice, and makes half of everything very beautiful, but OS X and or the graphics drivers just cannot keep up with an expert computer user, unless they tend to interact w/ a computer slowly enough that the rampant latency doesn't frustrate them. I personally just cannot write code on a mac, I find myself almost screaming as I watch the OS flounder and try to keep up with my keystrokes and interactions, and have almost thrown a MacBook Pro out a window before because of it, not exaggerating.

Macs have crashed on me and had "hardware related issues" so, so, so much more than Windows machines that it makes me snicker when people make claims like this.

Agreed. They used to be target at creative professionals now the are consumer. I do have a work macbook air but I simply use it because it's lightweight and it was bought for someone who didn't like it. Even with as big as our accounts are apple is just about the only one who will not let us return anything.

I have a small, portable Tascam recorder and a good AKG lapel mic that could be used for audio recording at first, I think.
