LOL lower their prices for a 20 million/year savings? that would be what, $0.10 per iPhone sold? even less?

Yes, very tiny, and if they only passed all savings on to customers, what would be their incentive for switching?

Exactly. You the consumer have already proven you're willing to pay X, why would/should they lower it? Instead they only care about lowering their expenses and increasing their profits.

Which brings up an interesting point, this means that IBM has abandoned Lenovo, their long term partner and the owner of the old IBM brand. So, in a way, IBM no longer runs IBM! Which is not that shocking, since even in 2000 - 2001 they relied on Sun to provide their servers instead of eating their own dogfood.

I've said this for a long time, the bigest problem with mac is that it's just layering things on top of each other for year and years without ever re-writing.

      What's wrong with that?

That looks like a pretty significant loss. They must have been pretty sure that this one was coming for quite some time. Now they have to be thinking about how they are going to handle the rest of it since they apparently have two chips that were not covered in this case!

What you are both forgetting is that the primary target of Apple's market is no longer the studio/production house, it is exactly the home user/prosumer market that they are targeting that they will hurt the most with this.

I wasn't forgetting I was just replying to you saying this will effect studios, video production houses etc.

6 Digit pass-codes are only a minimalist approach to attempt securing their devices.

It is better than 4 by a long shot and the cries if they forced users to switch from the simple code to alphanumeric would be immense

And there isn't any RDP type access to these devices where that access can be attempted remotely. That's a physical input device with a ten attempt limit. It's far more secure than the same thing on an SSH password, for example. I think that people are thinking of it in terms of different types of security.

With that last post You are comparing phone to tablet. Two different things.

I see how you have drawn that conclusion but I don't believe that is what was originally intended.
Look at it a bit like this:
1st image Apple promote ditching the stylus
2nd image Apple have built a stylus (type device) and are promoting its purchase.

If anything, it's an unfair comparison between touch screen technologies

I'm pretty sure that Apple will sell you whatever you want to buy.

      At extortionist pricing...

There is only one price. I don't think that Apple does any extra markup on the drives after the fact. They are the same price up front or later. So no extortion pricing, it's all level pricing. That's one of the Apple advantages. Sure, you have a higher price starting point, but you get all price transparency and the majority of the price pain up front. There are no surprises and later price jacks once people are locked in, even though they are locked in.

I'm trying to decide if this is a good or bad thing.... I haven't used cloud storage enough to get 'used' to it one way or the other.

That's how bad it is now, no one uses it currently because it is useless.
