I must admit Quip is looking good these days. It's deceptively simple and flexible.

What KIND of team would be a major factor. IT staff? MediaWiki. Developer staff? Jira. Office staff? Uh... no idea. PM Staff? MS Project server?

We started with telegram, but some of the users are not responsive enough. plus i am looking for more timeline based stuff.

But Telegram is great for a lot of what I need.

I've used Asana and Nozbe. Asana was better all around.

There are a few open-source based options, I've used in the past .. Most of these have free community, and commercial versions

                    • FengOffice
                    • Only Office
                    • Kolab

FengOffice is the one I've used most extensively ....

I used Feng for a while. It was pretty good.

I used to rely on Slack, which is nice. Liked it UI (and stickers).

Now we collaborate with the help of OnlyOffice. The most awesome document editors on HTML5 + two modes of real-time co-editing + convenient document management + integration with other cloud storages.

The only thing about OnlyOffice Community is that I found it to be a pain to install... The document server needs to be separate from the community server ..

@Veet To avoid this, you can always install ONLYOFFICE using Docker script or virtual machines with the office suite pre-installed - http://www.onlyoffice.com/download.aspx

Would that allow installation of both, the Community server as well as Document server, on the same VM ?

@Veet yes, using one of the available virtual machines with ONLYOFFICE pre-installed, you get Community Server, Document Server and Mail Server, the whole system to organize your remote team collaboration.

We use Trello. Free and everyone seems to love it. Tried Asana for a while but prefer Trello.

Yes, Trello is pretty interesting, but they don't have a self-hosting/on-premise option...
