You know, I don't think I did this.
Jeff from Milwaukee. Been in IT for 11+ years. Started as a help desk guy, went on to work for a few MSP type companies. Settled in to my current gig in April of 2012 as the full time SysAdmin for a school in the metro Milwaukee area. I currently support 120 Students, 35 Faculty and staff, and around 400+ devices.
@wls-itguy said in Windows 10 Machine not checking in:
Going through our inventory I found a few machines that haven't been checked in for quite some time. In investigating I found that the Salt service wasn't running. I tried to restart and got this:
So I went to the event logs and got this:
So I went back to the service to check for the path:
and in Windows Explorer:
All appears to be right with the universe so why isn't the service starting?
All that to go back to the PC and find out that Avast quarantined a file after a reboot that I didn't see and now all is right in the universe.
So probably not the best thread title. However, what I need to accomplish is what I view as a hack. I have two Raspberry Pi 3 units that will be serving as a "kiosk" in our library. I do not want the students to be able to get to anything other than our catalog system. I looked at a Linux OS that could do this but when I tried to install it it failed and I really didn't want to attempt it again.
The Pi's are running Canakits running Noobs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff
@scottalanmiller I understand they are not standard business tools. I also look at it that if I can make a kiosk for $75 instead of using a machine that would have cost $200+ I look like a genius
Guess I just gotta learn some Linux commands and figure out how to get them to run if the unit is rebooted. I LOVE BEING AN IT GEEK
Was able to make the vm clone. When I booted up I didn't have any issue so I wasn't required to fsck anything. Moving it now and I'll check it and post again.

@WLS-ITGuy line Loaded Configuration File: will give you config location.
Yup. Got it. Changed the memory_limit there and was able to run the script without using -d.

Business class. . HA 15 down and 2 up for that many people and businesses.
Actually expecting them to get their billing in order. What a joke! I'd send them invoices for all the time spent sorting out their fake billing scheme as an attempt to charge you more.
Each house had the 15x2 connection. Not shared.
I was talking to a friend who is an attorney and he said to keep track of all the hours we've been working on this and we should be able to get 3x our hourly rate for the time we've been spending on this. We're at about 10k in billing rate.
Sometimes I think SAM posts things to get @JaredBusch all fired up
Has anyone already booked an AirBNB? I'd share the cost of space if you have or I can book and someone can share the cost with me
The hotel costs are somewhat REDONK...do the kids still use that word?
I am currently running into some issues where the professors here are not bringing their laptops to the scheduled maintenance times I have set aside for them. I am trying to figure out a way to make a form or ticket that I can go through a checklist where the user and machine are documented and then what was done at that time, clear cache, updates to Windows, Apps, etc. This way when they complain to my boss about this or that not working I can show my manager the last time I was actually able to update their machines.
Anyone have something like this already set up? Or can you kick me in the right direction?
TIA

I'll be the judge.

There is a new project in these parts, Sodium, but it's very much a work in progress.
It's cloud hosted, so ultimately I don't know how customizable it will be. Of course that will be up to the dev team.
Not sure I'd want to be part of a work in progress Although my wife is very much part of one with me so I guess I could give it a shot.
I guess this question can apply to the MSPs that may be here as well.
Do you always ask for permission to take a server down? Or do you give them a time frame that it will be down? Or do you just reboot at your leisure?
Lately, any time I give anyone warning that at a certain time I will be rebooting a server I get push back. I have become "that guy" and just reboot whenever the F I want now.
Anyone else?

But I will say that at least CDW keeps trying to have our account rep be a hot chick... Current rep is "Britney", and she sounds hot. I don't buy anything from her, but I will occasionally take one of her calls, just to hear her try to use her hot girl tricks on me (I don't fall for them).
"Sounds hot" and "is hot" rarely go together
You can take that to the bank!

Not exactly the same as former military but how about anyone that IT is a 2nd or 3rd or later career move.
I started at a Gas Station, Went to heating and Cooling. Got injured and went back to the Gas station. Started learning from ML about 3 years ago.
Started my Job here about 8 months ago. What about you?
After the Marines I worked construction while going to college for Law Enforcement. Got my degree and wasn't getting anywhere with that. I think I applied to 30+ departments, Sheriffs, etc and decided that I needed to be employed NOW because my wife and I had our first kid. I went back to school and got my MCSA and MCSE in 2003 Server. Got my first IT Job in 2005 and been in this field ever since.
