I'm slowly adding helpful triggers into Zabbix to monitor windows event logs. What are you guys monitoring currently and why? I only use it to monitor my servers and am trying to compile a list of things to add. Thanks

I mainly use it to monitor the standard stuff... Free Drive Space (trigger for < 10%), CPU usage (trigger is set for 10 minutes at > 75% CPU utilization), RAM (default trigger), and Network Utilization (no trigger)

This is essentially what I do as well.

It can do more, like automatically restart services and such, but I've never had a need for it to do that.

This is still a consistent problem. Does not seem to occur if I'm not using cached exchange mode but that is required on my network.

Think about a closet. If you have five shirts, you need a closet to put them in. But not a big closet. Making the closet bigger will not speed up finding your shirt in the morning. And if you then have to clean the closest and sometimes you lose your shirt in it because it is so big, it actually slows you down. An unnecessarily large closet actually hurts you instead of helps you. But if you sometimes need a thousand shirts stored in there, you might determine that having a big closet is worth the wasted space and energy to handle the occasions when loads of shirts arrive and need to be stored.

Even if there is a policy that the users are supposed to clean up files, unless there is also a policy that says that IT is tasked to enforce this through forced deletion, I would stay away from this completely. There is a huge different between "users are supposed to clean things up" and "IT has decided to start deleting things." Never take enforcement into your own hands.

I agree, same thing as if your reporting has told you a user is watching youtube all day, you report it up and have management deal with it. You don't go adjusting your content filter.

I'm trying to do this now and my ADSI edit doesn't show the ForestDNSZone. Assuming my TLD/Domain was contoso.com, I should be plugging in this, right? No worky... Not sure why.

Are you working on a single domain or one root domain with multiple subdomains?

(*&@^$(@ Thing. Apparently, you need spaces in between the commas. This is dumb, though. Some places, this doesn't matter and others, you can't have spaces, and then this requires a space. Stupid thing.

I think running a yield is a problem to be associated with running yields, not the circle beyond the yield.

Yeah, I think it's an American problem in general when it comes to Yields.

Even NY has this issue. It's ridiculous. And cops often ticketing the innocent party. It's a major problem.

The county engineers don't even know how to make a safe one in the states. Wooster, OH just put one in on the major north/south route through town. A truck can not safely traverse the thing. They put benches in the center... that get run over whenever a truck tries to use the intersection. On a state route....

Ok, I'll try to stop the old truck driver grumblings.

We have one in Geneseo, NY that no one is sure if it is a circle or just an intersection with something in the middle. It's too tight for even a car to make a turn around. It's crazy. No space for it at all.

      County Engineer #fail

At least no one dies when the trucks routinely drive through the fountain in Geneseo.

lol... for some odd reason, nobody uses the sidewalk and benches in the middle of the one in Wooster!

Probably best. Which route is it on? I drive through there all of the time.

83, just north of the main shopping area

      Oh, i never take 83.

Yeah, US30 is really nice through most of Ohio now, just the bit east of Canton that becomes a pain now.

the camera has a 12V DC power supply. Do I need a specific POE injector? I'm assuming I do.

      WOW, all than angst!

I read this on my phone at first and read it to mean (though in reading it now on my computer i could see others taking it to mean something different) that the camera could take EITHER 1) a 12 VDC wall wart OR 2) POE.

POE is a known specification, so just buy something saying it will provide POE and you should be golden.

But it looks like you're already sorted.. so that's good.

I'm most likely going to need to create another thread this weekend. Going to make a from scratch domain + domain controller as if we were just establishing a business.

      Why?
Starting from scratch will mean the users will have to join a new domain, meaning their user profile will be changed on the desktops. You know how users fear change...

I'll be doing it at home (weekend). Sorry. I have a test environment at my place.

This falls under "one of those tasks you should definitely have on your home lab list" if you want to work in Windows, SMB or desktop administration arenas. A lot of people who work with AD at work will run AD at home full time. I've had AD (or its predecessor) for my home machines since 1997 or 1998. I've never run stand alone machines at home.

      servers paying dividends
