I'm with Wire - it's definitely not a clean... I just installed a new power plug myself behind my TV... though not an outside wall, not that that should be that big of a deal...

Yeah, unless these walls are filled to the edge with spray foam, feeding a few power cables down isn't going to be an issue. With fiberglass you'd just push through the insulation in those specific paths and it still wouldn't be that big of a loss.

Yeah, It's a new building so I hope there is spray foam. But even then it might not be that difficult. Might just need a wire probe.

No one around here does spray foam by default.

It should be. But yeah I don't think it's the default where @wirestyle22 is either.

Yeah it's not spray foam, but it is a 5 star energy rated home. We hit our spending limit due to all of the other upgrades so it wouldn't have been possible anyway.

I haven't, but I've seen reviews. They can only be controlled with a dream machine, so that limitation makes them not so useful (unless you happen to already have a dream machine on site, and then I'd still question business decision making.)

Yeah I've watched reviews too. The lack of reporting is a big deal for me and needing a dream machine is pretty crappy.

@JasGot I like mine higher, but then use a Pan Tilt swivel on my 70" ... this way when in the couch, it is pointing "Down" towards you. Also nice with the pan / swivel ... you can be in the kitchen, and just swing it that direction, or whichever way works best.

The TV I replaced with this new one I am putting in our bedroom with a pan tilt. I also like that

I don't like wall-mounting TVs at all. Don't you find them too high? Aren't you having to crane your neck upwards? When I'm lying on the sofa I like the telly to be at eye level, so just stand it on a TV cabinet.

It's not uncomfortable for me or Laura, but I can see why someone would feel that way. I think when you walk into a room it looks weird when there is a line of things on the bottom half of the wall and nothing on the top half. In the pics above I measure it out to be perfectly center in regards to the two windows. I'm very particular about aesthetics.

    • RE: Amazon Prime Day - Oct 2020

@Dashrender @Pete-S I've considered all of this. The reason I want an electrician to move the power outlet/ethernet is because it's an external wall and if I need to replace cables here and there (replacing the roku, tv, or other) I am worried I will rip up my insulation and a true conduit isn't to code in NJ. If I have him move the ethernet and power then there is no problem.

Idk if you guys remember me complaining about Laura not wanting to move the power outlet into the center of the wall (when we were building our house), but after weeks of discussion I just gave up. I knew eventually that she would realize how wrong she was.

      What we could've had:
      1.jpg

      What we have:
      2.jpg

I put in a call to our electrician to get an estimate, but it's easily going to cost us 3-4x the amount we would've spent during the build. At least Laura will learn to listen to me next time (she won't)

Don't know if this helps in your application but if you have old files you can just decrypt them with the old key. If it's important to store them in an encrypted state you can encrypt them again with the new key. After that you can revoke the old key.

Yeah I could do that, it just seems unnecessary when you can sign the new key with the old key and decrypt both. Turns out it actually chooses the right key so there is no problem

bank sends us an encrypted file. I decrypt it and it's an empty file. This happened once before but it ended up being an issue with the script I made which I fixed. This time I am testing by manually decrypting which ive never had a problem with. I am trying to find why this would be and I see no errors, no nothing. I then e-mail the banks IT and ask them if the file contains data and they admitted it doesnt. TGIF

    • RE: Changing Public PGP Key

So the only real way to do this is to add the new key as an additional key to the keyring. This sucks, because now I have to edit all of my decryption scripts to point to the specific keyid instead of by username. In the future I will just specify the keyid from the beginning. Lesson learned

    • Changing Public PGP Key

I have a public PGP key we used for bank file transfers that needs to be changed to a new key for file receipt. If I expire the old key and then load the new key we won't be able to read any of the files before the new key was in effect. Do I need to sign the new key with the old key? How does this work? I've never had to replace one before. I am using GPG.

      Thanks
