https://syncthing.net/ should work to sync devices. You could consider a vpn config to the buses and cron the openvpn connections from each pi to be at regular intervals to account for the buses being in places without a signal.

We have cellular in the bus. He wants syncing to occur when they are connected to Wifi which I have to figure out

Set your wifi to have a capture page that directs users to the web page and then there's no need for the plex app, which would require internet access to the apple/google store.

Then they are playing it through a browser. Possibly a worse experience. I would actually poll this

Plex Server: Intel NUC with 2 TB SSD installed. Curious what specific model you guys would think it worth it here.

Use Raspberry Pi. Uses a lot less power, costs less, will run Plex without breaking a sweat.

Yeah I have already purchased one to test it

Just get the USB to M2 NVM adapter or the SATA adapter and put in a 2TB drive and you are good to go.

Trying to find a mount for it. Needs to be clean and protected.

      https://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=raspberry+pi&dwh=155e66aafb5e921

Check your local library; mine has free 3d printing.

Just to be clear, the plex server is in each bus?

Yes one in each bus. Eventually I will try to sync all of the hard drives together. They all end up in the same place on the same network. Just working on the demo right now though.

Pretty fun project I am working on

So my family owns a limousine company. My stepfather was asking me if there is a way to view hundreds to thousands of movies inside of our buses just as a part of the experience their customers receive (no charge). We own a license that allows us to redistribute the media that would be streamed to the TV and also any of their mobile devices. So I started thinking about the best way to achieve this.

There are 15 buses that we want to install this in. there is a compartment that is big enough to fit a small form factor PC and an audio system we can plug into. My stepfather wants to try to keep each to $1000 if possible. I haven't been able to verify what router they are using inside of the buses, but I am told it should be sufficient. I'm not actually sure if this is the case but for the purposes of this post let's say it is.

      My idea:

If the user downloads the Plex app it's supposed to use the local address when possible. Provided they are connected to the Wifi in the bus, this should be fine.

Plex Server: Intel NUC with 2 TB SSD installed. Curious what specific model you guys would think it worth it here.

One of the more important details is in regards to Transcoding. I would likely just turn off transcoding and pick a widely supported file format like .mp4.

I'm going to purchase some stuff for a demo soon and I'll let you guys know how well this worked.

Until last week, we had a drummer who was 62, still playing original metal. Hope I'm doing the same at that age.

I used to work in the operating room of a major hospital and one of the general surgeons listened to metal while he was working. Great guy, very talented surgeon.

It's mostly him being himself, which is funny and entertaining. And he pops out a freestyle in one episode that is fiyah.

Is episode 1 his bar mitzvah? because if its not it should be

You aren't giving away the equity, you're slowly selling the property while you live there until death or you actually sell it. Whatever you may sell the house for, off the top covers the reverse mortgage to pay that back and then any outstanding debts.
It can make sense, in some cases. Single-non working childless person who is near that age. Wants to live in their house and have helping hands or whatever come over to assist.

Anyway, this is what it is. A reverse mortgage, done properly, is a perfect way to stay in your house, and not need to worry about your heirs needing to sell it, etc.

Like anything else, the only problem with this is predatory lendors. Those people exist across the spectrum. But of course they are more prevalent around the low income people that re most likely not to plan ahead, read, or understand if they read, the contracts they are signing.

That's a good point. I'm just curious what the hassle is worth to each person. I have heard of assets being unable to sell and draining the inheritors

A lot of peoples wealth is tied up in their home equity. If you willingly give it away you are trading equity in a home that continues to go up in value (lets assume you are in a good area) for currency that gets pounded by inflation. This contract is a snapshot.

No, most older people live in outdated homes. The sale price of their homes will be much lower than retail. Because no one will by a house with 20+ year old decor and appliances for the same price as one recently remodeled.

It depends. I've seen a lot of areas where this doesn't apply in NJ. It's one of the reasons I decided to build

Is there any good reason to have a reverse mortgage? The only situation I can think of where it sort of makes sense is from a survival standpoint. I'm sure some older people have lost their spouse and may not be able to make payments and still afford to live. It looks really predatory on paper. I'm curious if I am missing something here

A reverse mortgage allows you to access the equity of your home, without having to move. It's usually marketed to older people who aren't working, but need money (and some place to live). Because selling your house for the cash and not having anywhere to live doesn't really work.

This is why retirement communities exist though. You sell your house and move into a much less expensive house.

What do you define as a retirement community? Most senior housing is expensive or subsidzed for low income. Because Retirement communities almost always are assisted living.

In schaumburg, the top rated place is $40k down to get into an apartment that is then $3k-$5k/month.

We have communities here that are just 55+ houses. they are small ranches that are 130k to purchase.
