@gjacobse Looks awesome man! I need to clean up my work bench and dig into some of this stuff again. Once the good weather hits I struggle to work on any of my projects.

Well, I know for sure what I will be doing this winter... My father is building an analog Mรคrklin H0 model train course with tons of rails and trains - and wants some automation with Arduino's and Raspberry's. Now if he wants it, guess who needs to do it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, will be funny I think. Only thing where I'm not yet sure is the frontend, thought about something that works like webbased SCADA. Anyone knows something like this, preferably FOSS?

I'd use a Pi for the front-end web server and Arduinos to actually control the things. That way the front end can have time to do things like reboot if it needs it, and you don't loose control over every thing. I know people have done this sort of thing, but I don't know how much code is available to get the Pi and Arduino(s) talking.

Sorry, hitted the reply link on the wrong post. Anyway...

All the infrastructure is not a problem, it's planned right down to the bus system we're using. I'll be using dedicated Arduinos every here and there, all the logic happens on a Pi. Only problem is the monitoring and controlling frontend.

@travisdh1 Normally yes, because of the timing. But you can use stepper motors which works pretty well with RPis.

This is a good one for roughly 2-3 dollar incl. a ULN2003 controller board:

I've always wanted to get something like this going but for a webcam on a robotic arm (with a laser pointer - remote cat entertainment toy). I was going to make it super simple with an RPi webserver and simple buttons to control servos (click left = move servo motor #steps on X axis)

Shouldn't be much of a problem. Need to build the arm yourself or is it something off the shelf?

Just finished up a minor 'kill time' project.

      0_1466023112833_18650 phone booster.jpg

Using parts from Amazon and Adafruit, took a 18650 cell and turned it into a battery booster. Right side is the charger that will also have a port for using Solar. Left side boosts to charge any USB device... Switched to reduce battery drain when not in use.

      Looking good. Two comments:

      1. You should add some tubes to the switch. A bit much of tin solder. Next to a short circuit ๐Ÿ˜‰
      2. Your GND connection on the module on the right side of the picture (BAT -) doesn't look too great.

      Well -

      1. yes, I agree. But,.. I may Suguru over it,... therefore isolating them.
      2. Yea,.. not my 'best' but it's a isobutate iron.. not all adjustable. That is easy to clean up.

Yeah, was just what I saw when I had a quick look at it. Anyway, good idea and the result looks like it will do the job.

I would like to have one,.. it would help with the other project I have in the line.

We're just in the process of buying one. First thing to print will be a stand for the official 7" Raspberry Pi displays.

      0_1465968075226_upload-5ca034a8-4a4b-4a5a-98a8-36c862273039

ISA was superseded by ForeFront TMG and UAG years ago which both are EOL with no replacement at all. IMHO, having a proxying frontend (Postfix, Exim, Courier or even sendmail) somewhere "outside" (cloud / off-site / DMZ) is way better than letting someone connect directly to your Exchange. Got roughly 10% bad answers overall at SW - and in 90% of these cases it's about bad questions.

And look, it's not a community question but one that SW commission from their internal staff.

Well, I guess that answers all my questions regarding quality control.
Just a matter of time before people will be asked about upside down ducks.

Yeah, having non-IT people asking "IT questions" based off of random Google searches and unable to identify obviously wrong or outdated questions is a problem. At least when the community does it you have the community to blame.

      That's the point.

Yet another sad day. Must, train, more, Linux/UNIX sysadmins!

This is insanely basic, standard network knowledge, too. SFTP uses this too. How do people not know the most basic of networking!?!?

I know it's the small 1x1 (does one say so in English? Common saying here), but I still struggle with bringing together "IT Pro" and questions like this one...

BTW, really like the picture upload feature of NodeBB. Just figured out you can just paste a picture in your clipboard and it gets uploaded. So the process was like screenshot -> mspaint.exe -> clip image -> paste into ML new post dialog. Awesome.

Nice, I had no idea that that worked.

I've talked about it before (long time ago) in a thread in the platform section. It goes great with Greenshot and is how I post almost 100% of the images I post from my desktop.

      Same here! Greenshot rocks!

I didn't get much out of it but it certainly has a lot of features!

I still use snipping tool for screen caps

Seems like I'm kind of oldschool here... ALT+PrintScreen works out of the box in most operating systems.

I think they actually get placed somewhere else for actually storing the pictures and just linked to. Almost all my pictures are just links that NodeBB displays inline. Just add and exclamation point in front of the link like this

      ![link text](link url)

      link text

They will be uploaded to imgur.com by default.

Yeah, was more by accident. Thought I had something different in the clipboard and just hit CTRL+V and noticed the upload % display that gets injected by some JS. Would like to know how that works, because a simple textbox wouldn't accept binary data AFAIK and I'm curious how JS can access your clipboards data. Would be a great addon for some of my SharePoint webparts ๐Ÿ˜‰
