anyone else heard of this EOL on copper pair?

Not that I have any - everything I have is Cox - analog over cable.

Yep, Century Link kicked us off in Feb with 30 day's notice. Scrambled to ATT and now paying $80 per line when we were paying $22.

Why did you stick with copper?

Stupid faxes and fire alarm. Like you, we get thousands of pages a month. Also, at the time we found out our fire alarm does not have a wireless option either. UGH. Just a crap show....

Then you have to ask... is it really a fire alarm? What happens when the fire takes out the cable? I'd leave any service like that. For a fire alarm, you need a certain minimum standard and this falls below any reasonable level of acceptance.

The alarm company calls when the signal gets interrupted after a period of time. Just like the would if the fire took out the router/fiber.

      Yeah, but copper?

Unfortunately copper has worked best. We have clients who are die hard faxer's that like to send 50+ page faxes on occasion. I have one ATA currently and had two different ATA's in the past. As @syko24 has mentioned, I find ATA's a hit and miss also. Then retransmissions start and the client likes to restart from page 1.

I do currently have one ATA in "testing" mode that starts having issue around page 40-45. Anything less seems to have a 90% success rate.

The alarm company wants copper for the current system we have. It requires two lines as they want redundancy. I do use these two lines as fax lines also, to squeak out a little more value.

I notice efax costs keep coming down so I am hoping to move towards them in the future.

      right of free speech

There is not a "right to free speech" from any organization except the government.

I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding.

"of" was a typo. Should have been "to"

      I don't have a fundamental misunderstanding. I'm good.

Like I stated earlier, (correcting the typo) " I guess it all depends on how important one views the right to free speech and what is considered censorship." (notice how I did not say "I")

People denied by businesses for the past XXX years have been helped by new government laws. I see this possibly going the same direction.

I believe President Trump should start his own and go that direction. Create more competition and take millions of users off the other platforms in a very short amount of time.

I have agreed with this statement 100% in the past but my view is slowly changing.

I guess it all depends on how important one views the right of free speech and what is considered censorship.

Governments for the past XXX years continue to tell businesses who and what they have to accept if they want to do business in Country/State/County A, B, C...

Is this situation different from any other past powerhouse businesses in other markets/economies across the globe? Maybe it is, I don't know as there are numerous things to think about.

Finally done dealing with setting up new cable modem, cable box and bringing down the TV from upstairs.

Lightning struck a tree in the neighbors yard that touched the cable line, sending high voltage taking out the cable modem, shorting out the HDMI output in the cable box and eventually "frying" the TV.

      Ugh what a night.

What do you guys use for those one off connections that you need but don't have an agent already set up on a machine? Once in a while I have to remotely connect to a users machine who cannot access their student account and it would be nice to have something that wouldn't require them to click on 4 things before they get to where I can access their machine.

It doesn't have to be free.

I use Meshcentral with a link like @scottalanmiller

You can also use Remote Utilities for one off situations. You can have a free license for up to 10 connections and they have a Run-Only Agent the users can download from their website.

Thanks for the info and views of PHP. It is nice to hear some positives about PHP as I mostly read about the security issues surrounding the multiple versions of PHP.

LOL. Maybe even in something other than Access!

I talked to the boss and he agreed to moving to a SQL Server. Now I'm researching a frontend for it.

Access can be the front end. That's not a problem when using SQL Server. But if you can avoid Access, then PHP is the absolutely obvious answer. Don't even think about considering anything else, complete waste of time to even talk about it. Keep Access, or upgrade to PHP 8.

I have very limited knowledge in this area so I am wondering why not a .Net front end instead of PHP?

Why we must warn people not to use non encrypted traffic:
Do Not Use Telnet,Ftp or standard http

Here we will do an arp poison man in the middle attack to see another devices traffic on the same network. when we just had hubs this was easier now we have switches we have to use this method:

      1. sudo ettercap -T(txt only) -S(no ssl) -i(interface) wlan0 -M(man in the middle attack) arp:remote /192.168.1.1(router)// //192.168.1.8//(person to attack)

In this example, ettercap has the ability to see packets (the conversation) on a switched network between two different end points?

From a marketing perspective, my issue with the email is the perceived bonus you get for having an UNLIMITED account (I have one too). We are not getting any bonus for free, its included in the word Unlimited, at least according to the Oxford Dictionary.

What does the Oxford Dictionary say? The word unlimited doesn't imply anything regarding audio quality.

      Oxford says the following:
"not limited or restricted in terms of number, quantity, or extent."

My view is that the HD would be included in the "extent" part of the definition. So if streaming music tech has spread/extended to HD, it should be included as part of the Unlimited account.

This is every phishing email ever.

Well, if it is actually from Amazon, wouldn't that be considered marketing instead of phishing?

Not saying I agree with it the email as I have many other issues with it.

It is a legitimate email from Amazon. But it is nothing but a click bait click here to get something free email. When you work and work and work to train your users to not click on shit it seems too good to be true, but then a legitimate company sends out bullshit like this.

Agreed. With the forever issues these emails provide, as @Dashrender pointed out, the best I can hope for is to continue training users and always tell them to hover over the link before clicking to verify the address. Plus my added statement, "If you don't know, the answer is NO!"

From a marketing perspective, my issue with the email is the perceived bonus you get for having an UNLIMITED account (I have one too). We are not getting any bonus for free, its included in the word Unlimited, at least according to the Oxford Dictionary.
