    • Pertino and Shoretel

I know I could spend time to find the answer myself (and normally I would) but I don't have the extra time right now...

Does anyone work with the Shoretel VOIP system? I'm trying to find a way to set up our softphones from Shoretel server to people in the field. They are currently connecting through a stonegate VPN appliance. I'm trying to find out if there's a way to cut stonegate out and use Pertino.... just don't know how well Pertino would fit in this scenario...

      Any suggestions?

    • RE: How would you migrate from VMWare to HyperV?

@NetworkNerd the p2v for this is nice... just remember to check off a box if you're looking to use hyper-v on 2012... The downside though is that you might get a bloated VM because you can't move some of the blocks from the end of the vm to the front. Had that happen to me on one drive that was a 160gb vm using only 40gb. used the tool and was left with a 120gb vm... turned out that there were 'unmovable files' at the end of the vm image...

I've don the conversion a couple of times ... from VMWare to Hyper-V... I recommend Starwind. They have a free V2V converter tool that will allow you to switch the file formats. It works wonders... just set your email up when you register to go to a throw-away account...

Now the question is... can I get those apps on the amazon store, or do I have to 'jailbreak' it so I can get to the google play store? I've never really used the Amazon fires...

The best option you may have is find someone with a cheap android tablet/phone you can borrow and troubleshoot with that.

Yeah. I think I'm going to have them buy a small to medium android tablet. They can't be more than $200

@Carnival-Boy ....Yeah, I just read an article about how Apple yanked the chain on that one. Rather frustrating if you ask me.

@coliver ... I have submitted a request regarding inssider ... either the $20 app or trying to get the $199 app with the myfi usb analyzer...

I just can't believe there aren't that many apps out there... I mean what about all the 'hackers' and the 'dark netz'

    • RE: On the hunt for a good wifi tool

@coliver I've got an iPhone 5s as my personal tool. I also have a Dell laptop and the venue ... both windows devices. I don't have an android phone though. And that's what kills me. I know that there are some free tools out there for android, but I've not found anything regarding iOS devices...

    • On the hunt for a good wifi tool

      Hey guys...
Looking for a good (and hopefully free) tool to use for wifi sniffing and density checks. I have a problem at a customer's site and really need to get an accurate reading. I have a lil Dell Venue 8 that's win8.,1pro, so apps shouldn't be an issue. I can't use netstumber because it doesn't recognize the nic, and I tried the xirrus tool, but it's too clunky.

      Any recommendations?

    • RE: Interview for MIS Officer

I think the bigger question is how many retail stores are there. This can help define the scope of the position. If there are only 5 or 10 stores, you're going to be doing a lot more than just managing. By the description it seems like there are more requirements than just an "officer' position.
To me, an 'officer' would sit along the lines of a CIO or VP of Technology. But by the job description it sounds like it's more along the lines of a Systems Manager.

    • RE: RemoteApp and Bandwidth Usage

is there no option to get a faster connection? Does this site require 100% connection? Rather, can it afford to drop connection at night? (Typically, I've seen this with Comcast Business Class) ..

Everything you've said regarding the RemoteApp leads me to believe it's the graphics that are chewing it up. Is the switch in the office manageable? Can you monitor your uplink port to your ASA? Could you dangle a sniffer off of one of the other ports on the switch and look for app traffic?

    • RE: EverNote

EverNote was originally used because it could go cross-platform. Also, it was a unified location for your information. Since then, OneNote has synced up online with the the cloud and basically can do the same things as EverNote can now.

@thanksaj At my second job, they moved from VMWare to Hyper-V 3.0 ... They are completely hyper-v now... but they also have Cisco servers ... so they might be a little odd.

    • RE: ESX Appliance?

Hyper-V 3.0 is so much more polished than the previous versions of Hyper-V. I also think it's a lot easier to manage than VMWare. (Mind you I have 2 clusters of VMWare running with over 100 servers on each.) It's what I'm recommending to smaller customers, especially because of the price. And the new features in 3.0 put it extremely close to being on par with VMWare ... well, that was until VMWare when on a huge acquisition party and gobbled up some very nice companies.
