      Yeah, true

      The lack of data duplication still weirds me out though, probably because I don't really understand OBS. As Scott said, I'll still need a backup system. AFAIK if you have 3+ of these things it's still not duplicating data between them

      I think how a Oneblox cluster works is that once you have a cluster it pools all the storage together and kind of replicates the data across all of the Oneblox so you can withstand multiple drive failures across multiple Oneblox and incase of a oneblox failure. I only have two Oneblox and have them in a mesh so I don't know the exact details on how the cluster operates.

      My stumbling block with them while doing my research seems to be the $/GB

      For $10k (my assumed cost of a single OneBlox) you can get a kick ass server with really sexy stuff

      Thank you both

      I've got a lot of questions about how object based storage works but that's another topic entirely

      Would you be confident in their product without a backup solution?

      I think Exablox has a deal going on now that if you buy two OneBloxs you get a third for free and you can then create a cluster which would work great for what you are looking to do. If you buy just one OneBlox, you are going to need to do something for DR. Currently the only way I know of for this is using robocopy to send the files off site to another device.

      Side note, I think I'll be doing all my trial and error in a VM, the windows software seems a bit like crap lol.

      Sublime text is where it's at. I love it.

      I currently work for a non-profit that uses oneblox and we love it. I'm not really sure there is anything that compares to it, I love the fact that expanding storage is so easy and Bob and Louis on their support team rock! I don't think a regular NAS can stack up to a Oneblox. Let me know if you have any questions.

      What is your opinion on Javascript and Node.js for backend web developers? I see a lot of back and forth on the topic throughout the internet.

      It's making a lot of inroads on the backend but I don't see it lasting for forever. JS is a good language but not a great one. It just wasn't designed well for how it is being used. Once people start making Node.js-like engines for other languages, things will change rapidly.

      Gotcha.

      oh wow. That's funny. lol. I was going try to start learning Python, and I went through some videos on it and the tutorials through code academy, but for some reason it was boring me to all hell. I started looking into Ruby on Rails after I saw the post on Spiceworks about why they built it on ruby on rails and decided to give it a shot. I found the link on reddit, fired up cloud 9 and started learning. I love it, such a great language to learn.

    • RE: Considering a Career Change to IT

      I went to school for Networking and then scored an unpaid internship at my current company. I worked my way up starting with 15 hours a week gaining more experience and hours until I reached a salaried position. When I started I mainly did break and fix type issues and desktop support and am now a Sys Admin.

      How did I get there? I found that I really liked the server side of things and really dug into it, I would find technologies people and companies where using and talking about and found a way to set them up or the open source alternative and with the limited resources I had learned. as much as I could.

      Spiceworks and SAM really helped me get to where I am, I would dig through Spiceworks and find posts from SAM and use them as advice to guide my career. SAM's advice is like a blueprint on how to be successful in IT.

      The sweet spot, at one point I thought I found the sweet spot, but then I decided that I wanted to make a little extra money on the side and found that there are a lot of opportunities doing software development remotely from the comfort of my own couch. I've always like programming so I recently wen't back to school to get a IT - Software Development degree to really get back into it.

      HI Everyone,

      I just wanted to share a resource I found, in the midst of looking for a good place to start learning Ruby on Rails, I came across this online book. It teaches you Ruby on Rails by while using a Cloud 9 VM

      If you are just starting with Ruby on Rails I suggest this over anything else out there besides going to something like Dev Bootcamp. I went through most of the Code Academy Ruby on Rails course and after switching to the rails tutorial I am amazed by how much and how fast I am learning Ruby on Rails.

    • RE: C++ Creating a for loop to output a multiple multi-dimensional arrays.

      I ended up finding that if I add another for statement and nested in the first for loop and then cout some blank spaces I was able to achieve what I was looking to do. Below is what I had to do.

      for(i = 0; i < num_rows; i++)
      {
      for(j = 0; j < num_cols_1; j++)
      {
          // print j'th element in i'th row of array 1
      }

      // print some spaces

      for(j = 0; j < num_cols_2; j++)
      {
          // print j'th element in i'th row of array 2
      }
       }

    • C++ Creating a for loop to output a multiple multi-dimensional arrays.

      Hi Everyone,

      I am trying to output multiple multi-dimension array in C++, and need a little help understanding on why and how for loops display output where they do. I would like my first multi-dimensional array to output and then to the right of that I would like to have my second mult-dimensional array output. I am able to get my second mult-dimensional array to output underneath the first, but not next to it without making everything look like a mess. Below is an example of how I would like my code to output.The - are supposed to be empty space, I had an issue trying to get it to display properly.

      -- first -------- second
      12 34 23-------34 56 67
      32 77 56------34 54 56

      Below is what I have to output my first mult-dimensional array. Thanks for your time.

      #include <iostream>
      #include <conio.h>
      #include <iomanip>

      using namespace std;

      int main()
      {
      int a[2] [3] =
      {
      	{ 16, 18, 23 },
      	{ 54, 91, 11 }
      };

      int b[2][3] =
      {
      		{ 14, 52, 77 },
      		{ 16, 19, 59 }
      };

      for (int row = 0; row < 2; row++)
      {
      	for (int column = 0; column < 3; column++)
      	{

      		cout << a[row][column] << " ";

      	}
      	cout << endl;
      }

      _getch();
      return 0;

      }
