Or MCT will give you a fresh install compared to an upgrade?

No, it's still an upgrade just the same. But it does it with a huge amount of prep so the process is pretty reliable.

But if you use MCT to upgrade do you then get a Win10 license key as well? Or do you still have to use whatever old whatever version key you have?

I'm thinking if you have to reinstall everything after the upgrade to Win10. Do you have to go back to old windows again and start over?

Your Key from the prior version is re-assigned/changed/converted; use whatever term you wish; let's say you upgrade your Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. After activation of Windows 10 with your Windows 7 key, your Windows 7 license is no longer a Windows 7 license key, it is a Windows 10 license key. This license "change" may have stopped occurring after the end of the free upgrade period (even though it still activated). Make sure you are compliant with licensing before upgrading.

@BrownLuther007 said in Streaming music for office (or anywhere):

Is it legal to stream music, anywhere in the office. Or large scale companies?

It is based on square footage. You'll have to investigate to be sure.
Streaming is included in "Radio or television broadcast' in this case.

There are two “small business exceptions” that allow certain small businesses to play radio or television broadcasts in their establishments without having to pay any additional licensing fees. The exceptions apply to:

      1. Any establishment with less than 2,000 gross square feet, and any food service or drinking establishment with less than 3,750 square feet.

      2. Any business establishment with greater than 2,000 square feet, and any food service or drinking establishment with greater than 3,750 square feet provided that they use fewer than 6 speakers or TVs, no more of 4 of which are any one room, and with a screen size of less than 55 inches.

To qualify for these exceptions, the business owner must not charge an admission fee nor play any other music other than terrestrial radio and TV.

The MCT also verifies the install before starting, for a second layer of automated protection from mistakes or misunderstandings.

This is why you should not use the MCT on one PC, and then take the resulting ISO/USB media and install it on all of your other PCs. It is important that the MCT run on the PC you are upgrading; to make sure you pass all the pre-requisites it is capable of verifying.

I've never looked to get a listing. Call a 411 service and see what results for your company already exist?

I don't create a dial route that works for 411, so no one can call it anyway. Who wants to wade through that shit on a phone call anyway.

I agree, but some customers still want to be listed. As if we still get a phone book and yellow pages on the front porch each year!

    • RE: Sonos

Well. It turned into a big project.

Ended up replacing old Unifi APs, adding additional APs, adding 4 Sonos Fives, 2 Sonos Ones, 2 Sonos One SLs, 4 Sonos Moves, and 2 Sonos ARCs.

Then, because of the new APs, spent at least 4 hours battling a WiFi connected Tuxedo Touch, ended up pulling Ethernet to it.

Integrated Alexa to the Sonos System just so I could ask the speakers to turn the outdoor Edison Lights on and off! 🙂

And then added my Plex server, SiriusXM, and Spotify to Sonos.

      We be Jammin' now!

If you have access to the business account you might have better success working with an account rep. Getting someone whose success/pay is based on you remaining a customer could have more impact then going through tech support.

We've reached out to our rep to get an inside track to a tier 3 support person. This will be one of those "it's who you know" avenues that I wish I didn't have to take.

@JasGot Maybe contact @Phil-CommQuotes and see if there's alternatives to ComCrap.

Yeah, if the issue is about quality, your recourse is to switch providers.

I'm having a hard time figuring out where all of you are coming from..... They have a faulty router in Ashburn, VA that they need to address. I would hardly call this poor quality to the level that requires a change of ISP.

Do all of you dump your vendors and providers at the first sign of a transient technical problem? Or better yet, do you want your customers to dump you if you have what amounts to a minor technical issue? I have over 150 accounts with this ISP scattered all over our metro area. As much of a nuisance as this is, it in no way has been elevated to the point where I think leaving would be the better choice. (Yet.) (Even if it were just one account)

Maybe I'm old and don't get worked up as easily anymore; but I can tell you that if they can get this resolved tomorrow, I'll be quite satisfied. My frustration was with the agent that was on the phone, it was beyond her ability to comprehend that there could be a problem with something other than the equipment at the customer location.

My rep gave me the name and number of guy in the engineering group locally and he has contacted someone in VA, I hope it'll be a mute point by the time I awaken in the morning.

It's time for a glass of Pappy Van Winkle 23 and the evening news.

See, and I would see that as her manager deciding to use someone like that to shield the company from doing their job. Anyone can be stumped, but why didn't she escalate and do proper support rather than coming up with excuses to shut you down?

I agree. And this doesn't lead me to dumping them yet.

There is a big difference between and idiot gatekeeper and a company's willingness to fix it. I believe the girl and her manager should be fired.

If every person dumped every vendor for a single bump in the road. There would be no vendors in the world.

By the way. The issue is resolved. The local engineer reach someone in the Ashburn DC and they addressed the issue during the night.

@scottalanmiller said in Is Real Estate Actually a Good Investment on Average?:

The idea that you would create a business that never makes money and get rich buying and selling that worthless business to higher and higher bidders sounds insane. But all of the US economy is built on that.

Just think of the age of the industrial revolution. America is the "IDEAS" country. So much of our money is based on "Ideas" ie; My company will make huge profits in the future (Amazon), My company's product will be in everyone's pocket in under two years (Apple), My brand will be a household name very soon (Coke-A-Cola, Dell), Our service will become a verb in every language on earth (Google).

It's the future of these ideas that generates interest, investment, and wealth for those who invest. Just think of all the millionaires Coke-A-Cola made for people who have no idea how to blend the drink or manufacture it or even distribute it.

But in America, you can be a highly regarded company with zero profits even for decades and make your money by increasing the stock value, while losing money.

      Amazon.
      Founded July 5, 1994
First penny of profit = 4th Quarter 2001 while doing over $1 billion a year in revenue.
29 quarters of losing money...... Think about that!

Why so huge? The idea interested investors.
Why did they invest? The the IDEA was certain to make huge profit for them in the future.

You need a router between ViaSat modem and switch. From your description it looks like Pepwave is a router/modem, but I'd get dedicated router, Ubiquiti has many options.

So in theory, could I not pull the SIM card out of the Pepwave, bring in the ViaSat connection, route in the PepWave and then send back to the main switches? Wasn't sure if the SIM card would be a problem...I do see you can have a secondary WAN in the settings:

If it is capable of a physical ethernet connection on the WAN side, then perhaps. Would pepwave offer any help in using an ethernet connection for WAN access until the 4g is back online?

      It's worth a shot...it does have a WAN port...

      PepWave_01.jpg

Go for it. It can hurt..... You will need to configure that port. It looks like it can be LAN or WAN.
