Had a customer call and ask us to come and setup 10 Sonos speakers for their office. They said they picked them up because their overhead system was static-ee.
I assured them this was the wrong approach because commercial amps with 70v speakers don't just go bad all at once. It had to be FM reception.
It was. But they really wanted the Sonos so they could stream music. I told them this was silly because they already had a beautful sound system in place. They just needed a new source.
I installed a Nexum Tunebox2 https://www.nexum-design.com/tunebox2 for them and I have to say, it is truly sweet.
Use any smart device or PC or MAC to tell it what to stream, and then you can disconnect and it will sing forever. Of course it'll do other things too. But set and forget was the goal.
Just thought I'd share about this little box. $64 on amazon.
So, the static was at the source equipment, not the speakers?

This deployment as stated he is also most likely illegal. You are not allowed to simply stream whatever you want. The original FM re-broadcast was actually illegal. I am basing that on the fact that there are 10 speakers so most likely the size of the office is too large for the small business allowance

It is based on square footage. You'll have to investigate to be sure.
Streaming is included in "Radio or television broadcast' in this case.There are two “small business exceptions” that allow certain small businesses to play radio or television broadcasts in their establishments without having to pay any additional licensing fees. The exceptions apply to: 1. Any establishment with less than 2,000 gross square feet, and any food service or drinking establishment with less than 3,750 square feet. 2. Any business establishment with greater than 2,000 square feet, and any food service or drinking establishment with greater than 3,750 square feet provided that they use fewer than 6 speakers or TVs, no more of 4 of which are any one room, and with a screen size of less than 55 inches. To qualify for these exceptions, the business owner must not charge an admission fee nor play any other music other than terrestrial radio and TV. -

What's legal, especially with regards to copyright varies from country to country. The question, for whatever reason has a link to https://beebom.com/best-music-streaming-service-india/ against a comma. Not sure if it's intentional but since it's there, it bears clarification at the very least, no?

Totally depends on the service. Generally, however, the answer is "no". But there are definitely streaming services that license for that.

I think Epidemic does similar. They own their own catalog so have a lot of flexibility.

When looking at the copyright issues of broadcasting (playing over speakers or display devices) streaming content for public viewing/listening in your office or restaurant, streaming is considered the same as a television or radio broadcast . So the copyright laws regarding playing TV or radio in your office also apply to streaming content.
