If your goal is not to deal with customers, I'm assuming that dealing with users is out of the question as well. In that case do not go into a support role, such as system admin, network admin, and service desk. You'll want to specialize right away into something you could become an engineer for. DBA, storage, programming, web design, engineering of some kind.

I've contemplated the idea of starting my own tech blow, but after starting a health and fitness blog that only lasted a month I found that blogs are not for me. However I wanted to run my newest idea past everyone. Over the years I've created hundreds of how-to documents on various topics that I was studying or learning about at that time. Though the process of creating all of them I've learned that I rather enjoy creating documentation and teaching. So I'm considering creating a web site that is just how-tos. My end goal is to turn it into a giant knowledge base by the end of my IT career. Be like the Google of IT documentation! lol

I don't suppose you'd ever look for someone in Omaha?

You could spend your whole life documenting every little thing. Here are a few questions I ask myself before creating a document. Can this be easily memorized? Will I forgot this completely before I have to do it again? Can I share this with others to do the work for me? Would this be something I'd likely be doing again? and the best one "Is it worth my time to create this document". Many variables answer the last question.

Sadly I don't have the energy to stay that active in anything these days...
