Are you setting the NICTeam IP or one of the adapters making the team.

Leave the individual adapters alone, and just set the Team

Asked that before, he's configuring the team, not the NICs

Before it's a team you can mess with the NIC settings, and it effects the Team afterwards (in my experience).

Should not happen because Windows will unbind all IP protocols (v4 and v6) from each member NIC. At least in theory.

      Don't ya just love theory???

I'm more on the practical side.

From what you are seeing does this one allow you to set the position just above the taskbar?

      You can move it.

      You're Hyper-V has SMB1 enabled

      nudzdn9.png

But Hyper-V shouldn't be involved in SMB communications.

      For the test it is.

      What is the test testing?

If an OS installed directly on the hardware doesn’t have the slowness issue when sharing over The network vs the vm on its vSwitch that does have the issue.

What I don’t know is.... if Hyper-V is installed, is the hosts traffic in any way different than if it didn’t have the hyper-v role added?

Which one? You have several RAID videos.

A Pi Hole might be better for this home client.

Compare to what bitdefender box provides PiHole only does ad blocking. Minds well setup a squid box with squidguard instead.

No one here uses Untangle ?

Nope, have never found it to be that great. Not that it is bad, but having used it, it was only so so.

Just put the new spare on top of the server or something - somewhere so it can be replaced the moment that you need it, but only with intent.

I agree. I've worked for several smaller companies, and they all had strick reimbursement policies. i.e. I can't have a rental car for SW next week - I have to use the shuttle. Meals capped at $35/day, etc.

I thought about staying up at the Arboretum and renting a car, but I hate parking in Austin. Instead, I'm just going to bus in (Vonlane drops you off south of the river for the same price as a southwest airlines flight) and bum rides off the local SE's and Alliance guys if I need to go to RoundRock or something. Uber/Lyft is far cheaper than renting a car and parking it for $30 a day at a hotel.

Staying at the Courtyard near the convention center (was like 300 a night).

That was just an example. I don't care about having a car, I'll walk like I have the last two times I was there. I took a shuttle or perhaps even the bus from the airport to the convention center.
Since traveling in EU, I don't mind taking the bus anymore. In general it seems safe and fairly easy.

As for the hotel - I got an AirBnB for like $600 for 3 nights.

I often do that when traveling, just skip the whole car deal altogether.

Yep, super easy. If I wanted to wake up an hour earlier, I could have caught the bus back to the airport for $1.25... instead I split an Uber to the airport for $30 total. The cost of convenience.

@jmoore said in Hyper-V Host - Member of the domain or not:

I enable the local admin and set a secure password for everything here as sometimes machines quit responding to the Windows domain controller and I have to have a way to reset things.

By stating that you enable local admin, I want to know how it was disabled in the first place.

I don't know what the issue is here.

When you install Hyper-V Server, you can't log in any way other than local admin. Maybe after you join it to the domain you can disable the local admin account, which is weird to do...

      That is entirely my point.

This was supposed to be more of a "Best Practices" question. I really don't have a problem situation in front of me, but wanted to better understand best practices when setting up a Hyper-V host.

I have setup a number of Windows 10 client devices and noticed that the local admin is disabled. I assumed (though never experienced) that the situation would be the same for a Hyper-V host.

Local Administrator account in Windows Servers and Hyper-V is enabled by default. Windows desktops has the local administrator account disabled by default.

So that's where they hide it... in the EULA of a separate product or whatever you want to call it.

But yeah, it's pretty clear in there.

If it is shadow copy, you have to adjust how often Shadowcopies are taken. It's a pretty cool piece of included tech, but as you notice, it can put a strain on resources when it's copying. Deciding if this is something the company needs might be outside of IT's purview. They might decide the feature is so nice it's worth more hardware.
