So, one of my favorite sites, The Huffington Post, had an article I just came across and felt glad to know that it wasn't just me!

7 Things Only Chronic Overthinkers Will Understand

Except for the last sentence of #6, and although it wasn't targeted at the career aspect, I thought the points in this brief article summed up things nicely.

So my question for everyone: do you think that people who have highly or over-analytical minds are drawn to IT more instinctively than others?

      Thanks!

      A.J.

@ajstringham Interesting read for sure. I can agree with alot of those points when it comes to me, especially the remorse of not getting that other device rather than the one I chose. I've ended up doing that with too many video games throughout my life.

I think that that seems likely. IT requires a lot of analytical thinking so naturally analytical people will be drawn to it.

I would agree. When you can have something being blocked at the network level by the firewall, at the computer level by the security software, by a third-party filtering service, etc, I feel like IT draws people who like constantly juggling six different things and who enjoy things that are constantly getting added as potential variables. It's maddening but when you finally figure out the solution to that complex problem, it's a rush that I can't even describe to people...

Yeah I'm definitely starved of conversation about solutions for sure. The past decade I've worked alone essentially. When I sat down with the guy who I'm taking over for I realized how bad it was. We spent like 4-5 hours talking shop. I could tell he was in the same position I was lol.

IT is especially tough because so many companies only need one or two people. You rarely get a large department of people doing similar work.

But when you do, and you're working with a group of good people to solve a tough technical issue, and you finally get it from working together, it's an awesome feeling.
