We have a SpiceCorps DFW coming up in a couple weeks and need a technical topic or two for presentation. No vendor presentations this time after the disaster that we had last time. So I'm wondering what topics should be presented. Hopefully we will get everything filmed so that we can post.

A really high level VoIP talk might be useful. Totally tech neutral, just talking concepts.

How about Best Practices? Common IT mistakes/disasters and how to avoid them. More generalized to IT and not to a certain industry.

                What specifically, though?

@scottalanmiller a good way to talk about VoIP in a general sense is to discuss where the savings come from for the members to take back to their company decision makers.

Yeah, the tech is cool and the advantages are awesome with flexibility, options, etc. but that all means nothing without the ROI.

VoIP Approach and ROI could be good.

@scottalanmiller Factors into the cost of downtime. What does it cost your company when a system goes down?

That could work... how to calculate the cost of downtime.

How about a talk discussing tips for professional development and career goal setting? Though you may be happy in what you do / where you work, it is important to continue to move forward with investing in yourself. Sometimes people are so overwhelmed with the amount of work they are asked to do they are not able to take a step back, look at the big picture, and see if their employer or their current role is still helping move toward career development and goals. Hopefully that makes sense.

Just promise me if you discuss calculating costs of downtime and how it plays into what you should spend to mitigate it that you'll work in a good analogy something lines of "that's like shooting yourself in the face today to avoid a headache some day."

                            That's my favorite SAM analogy.

It has not yet been posted. If December 8th works, either @Texkonc or I can post it. We just need an official start time and end time.

                                    Discussion of VOIP:
-cost analysis to provide a solid ROI case
-how it would work in your existing infrastructure
                                    -what features are important
-what level of service to expect
