So the service is nothing but the GUI, as expected. 🙂 Thanks for verifying. Nice to know for sure I'm not crazy from time to time.

      ?

I used to be big into work folders when it first came out. But, I've given up on it ever becoming fully implemented. The promised apps for mobile devices never showed up. It took about 8 months for the Windows 7 app to even be made after the Win 2k12 R2 release.

I can see why this was done.

Exactly. I totally see why it is done. You just wrote out "confusion" in a really lengthy way. I never said that I didn't understand, my point was that I did understand and I was stating why.

@thanksaj Problem is, they're a school district with little, if any, funding for IT. Backups are always an afterthought.

What they need to see is that whatever budget there is, is the budget. Skipping backup planning is like taking the budget and spending it on things they can't afford. It's the business equivalent of knowing you have to pay rent for the month AND pay for food but going out to eat every night and not being able to make rent and then saying "meh, who needs shelter, it's not like the weather ever gets bad."

It's called a budget for a reason. They need to take the money that they have and figure out what they can do with it. If there isn't money for backups, there isn't money for anything. What's really happening is that they blew the budget and hoped that they wouldn't get caught.

What about block-level deduplication? I guess that doesn't apply to the Windows model.

The block level data is on a Drobo, so that is not an option in this case. If it were NetApp or something like that, it might be a different story.

Thanks guys for all the help! I'm going to fix this...except I somehow lost access to the vSphere lab...I opened a helpdesk request but likely it'll be tomorrow before I can get access again. The helpdesk here, internally, is not particularly quick...

I need to add some process after discussing with the Project Managers, just to ensure that we don't end up using 100% resources of servers and if something new comes i will end up terminating some to accommodate new ones. Idea is to ensure to have some policies like, x number of hours/days needed to fire up x type of SP farm (single server, multi server- 6 servers, 8 servers etc), If there are new projects coming in, share the infrastructure proposal with us, so we can check if there are rooms for this new setup, if not order new servers to provision etc.

      Nevermind solved that problem

I logged into my O365 in Word - now I see my SharePoint site, and my business OneDrive... and there is the personal one drive, but it wants me to log into that (seems odd).

Is there a way to get OneDrive for Business into Windows Explorer like there is for OneDrive for home users?

I had to do a bizarre dance to get ODfB to show up. Been rock solid since.

It's the only install option that I normally use. I only install the GUI if there is a specific site technical deficiency making it necessary.

It's the default option and the option that is suggested with all new 2012 R2 installs thanks to the Server Manager and PowerShell. The really nice thing is that you can deploy Server Core, and if you so choose at a later date install the full GUI and even revert it back to Core. It's not a irrevocable decision now with 2012.

That has saved me a few times so far.

Up until about a month or so ago I was still afraid of doing this because I thought it was still irrevocable like it was in 2008 R2. After seeing how to switch back and forth with a few PowerShell cmdlets and parameters, I'm going to install and maintain more core systems because I always have RSAT and Server Manager now.

Someone needs to rip that earring out of his head.

Maybe then he'll get a clue.

He wouldn't get as many views then, and that's really the point. People don't like watching someone succeed nearly so much as the utterly stupid. (See his $100,000 pc build for another one.)

Views also get him sponsorship which is where the $100,000 PC came from.

Exactly. The sponsors don't care that the content is banal. They care about the numbers of viewers and to a lesser degree their demographics.
