I was speaking of the people on the NextCloud forum. You would still use SCL for any PHP > 5.4 on RHEL

Good question and the answer is 'yes'. Frankly we wanted to do this much earlier but it is a fair amount of work and we are still very busy building up the project. The plan is to create a foundation that would own the trademark and, under certain circumstances (like a take-over of the business) have the right to take it away from the company. The board of the foundation would consist of a majority of non-company-affiliated people, and the community should vote on who's on there.

Open questions are what else the foundation should do. Accept and handle donations? Do the conference? Even some development? Or nothing other than the trademark protection? These things have their pro's and cons so we have to have a wider discussion still. Perhaps at the upcoming Nextcloud conference, I'm not sure yet. We will have a solution in 2017, though, I am quite certain of that.

So you do not have access to your php settings file? Could you ask them to increase that limit? Seems like a standard thing.

@JaredBusch Hmmm, the post was mostly meant to also try and help ppl coming from, say, ownCloud 5 - they will get in trouble with the apps, finding the old tarballs etcetera.

If you're on 8 or 9, there is not much news because it isn't, or rather- shouldn't be too hard. Would really like to know what problems you had as we have to fix those 😉

Note that Nextcloud 11.0.2 comes early next week, Monday probably.

You can use the upgrade tool which is even easier if you are on a current version of owncloud. Even though the article doesn't say anything about updating from owncloud, the first article I posted does say you can use this method on current owncloud servers. You just switch the update channel and search for updates.

Ah you're right nm. And if I would have actually looked at your output I would have noticed no ACLs. I just remembered ownCloud had an SELinux issue during the install.

Did it just give you that error or could you actually not use the site?

So, I'm upgrading to the latest version of Plex (free version as of now) and noticed that the new paid version ($5/month) now has a photo option, with mobile phone picture sync! https://www.plex.tv/features/photos/

Interesting. Seems like a mistake in terms. Why does being available over "web" make it "virtual". Seems like a marketing term. I don't see anyone but Citrix using it, and Citrix has a trend of totally making up and misusing terms. Citrix' use of "virtual" is the industry standard for "wrong". I have a feeling that this isn't a legitimate term. Looking at the wikipedia entry for it, it looks very suspect. And the definition doesn't feel right - a specific access technology for something so general wouldn't be appropriate. And the lack of other products or vendors using the term for something so common and normal is suspicious. For example, Sharepoint and Alfresco have been doing this for forever, but never use the term.

Yeah, certainly not a business device, it isn't powerful enough for that. It is meant for home users.

And yes, it is designed to not require maintenance. That is, the OS automatically updates, as does Nextcloud itself. I think that at the moment, you'll have to re-enable apps, that is the only thing. We're working on making that work automatically too. Help is obviously welcome.

Oh OK this just got a lot more interesting. I personally feel that anything that goes to a consumer needs to handle 99.9% of maintenance tasks completely on its own. If it doesn't then most of us know that in a consumer environment it will never happen, and we end up with IOT devices helping to cause 1 TB DDOS attacks.

Just FYI for anyone finding this thread. The above does not work because there is not a vhost file.

Call certbot like this.

The people that made ownCloud left to make NextCloud. Both products continued, but NextCloud grew and ownCloud nearly went out of business and for all intents and purposes doesn't exist anymore. But technically, it is still out there.
