Where will you get your WISP's internet feed from?

Spectrum services the area, just not a reasonable enough area. . .

They'd be an easy competitor as they are offering <1MB download speed services for $50/month in the area.

But if their speeds are so awful, where are you expecting to get enough bandwidth for your WISP?

      WTF

Again, this was before he stated he was using someone on the other side of town.

And to that point @NerdyDad if there is another provider on the opposite site of town, are they just outside of the region you're looking to provide service to?

This is in regards to you thinking that spectrum even involved in the picture they don't do that shit was not ever be possible

      Drunk much?

      Holy fuck...

Siri of course. I'll edit it when I am out of traffic

Oh I figured she was juggling your balls. ..

Clearly there is a misunderstanding here.

Any investment that can be avoided is a good thing. Wasting 50K or more for a tower of your own is a horrible investment. @NerdyDad is in a town, with plenty of buildings around. I'm sure plenty of which would be willing to lease their roofs to him.

Which would remove a shit ton of paperwork and cost from him starting his own business. If you can't see that as an obvious fact I have no way to help you understand business.

@dustinb3403 buildings come with their own host of issues that can potentially make a tower a much better investment.

And that is easily explained rather that calling me insane.

Yes a lease of the outside of a building could be more costly, but explain your stance. Rather than jumping down my throat.

@NerdyDad Check and see if Cogent can come to your area. They have been very helpful with our Internet setup (we have an AS number and still had to pry-out of Verizon's hands our owned IP addresses). Also if Telia can get out there (have a PoP in Dallas) they have dirt cheap Tier-1 bandwidth. Wasn't someone on here doing a fiber mapping site as well that you could check?

Tier 2 and Tier 1 ISPs are what you'd be looking at. If you have any datacenters or large business/school campuses near you they are probably being serviced by an ISP in one of these tiers. Definitely worth asking them who they go through.

Make the client buy their end point. Don't even give them a choice. That way when another vendor comes in to do work, and just so happens to remove it.. you aren't blamed for no service for two months..

Please,.. don't ask me about it... I just... wow...

That's been a discussion point for me and the family as well. Making them buying the product makes them responsible for taking care of their equipment. However, the price point of the CPE is kind of a turn off in comparison to the monthly prices. Therefore, we've considered payment plans for the CPE for 1 year. Want to disconnect service? Well now, the rest of the money for the CPE is due.

I'm of the opposite mind. "Rent" them the equipment. It won't often go bad so the monthly rental price will offset the few units that go down to lightning strikes. If units do go bad it won't be hard to just replace it and continue with the monthly rental.

The CPE units from UBNT are so cheap now you could just call it an install/setup fee and still rent/own the equipment.

@NerdyDad I am curious what speeds and prices the market will bare down in your area.

well, the reason behind the suggestion is that we just had CPE 'vanish' and things not work,.. so where is the CPE? Who removed it? and Where is it now?
