Vendor Harassment Black List

So, you're saying IBM is not reputable ? , huh ?
At this point... if they are harassing people, then no.
Not saying they don't make good gear, but more that their sales folks are not reputable enough to stay off the black list.
-
we keep our own internal blacklist for pushy or harassing vendors. I had to actually cut one off the other day. I think a public one would be too easily abused / require too much verification and maintenance

Definitely not. I've worked there, even IBM won't use IBM equipment. They are harassing by both email and phone. They are not what I'd call reputable in many contexts of that term.

See, and that's info that we would like to have. We don't have to have to make that same list of those same people ourselves. We'd love to share that data to save us both time.

Exactly. And even if they were reputable.... 1) we are not even remotely a potential customer and 2) under what condition would we want a sales call from them?

(Just for the sake of this thread ) "Sir, I think IBM is a very reputable company .. I work for IBM, it seems like you've had a bad experience during your tenure with IBM, which is way you are defaming out company"
-
So instead of "should we have a blacklist", let's first discuss....
Under what condition should any sales call make it through to IT or management?

Not defaming, just repeating IBM's own official policy on itself. IF there is defamation, it's internal.

Who's to say that entries on the blacklist couldn't be redetermined? Nothing is ever permanent. IPs get off blacklists every day.

@scottalanmiller - while I back your intent, I don't think a community based black-list would work ...

I agree ...

I agree, and a bigger issue I see is that the blacklist is purely up to the person who posts.
What's to say a member here is let go from a vendor and immediately blacklists their number.
Not everyone here is known for who they work for or with.

Do you think they still are reputable, here in 2016???

Do most people get calls from central company numbers, or the sales reps numbers? I get most of mine from the sales reps numbers... You could say "$person at $company is harassing me every day for this sale that I'm not giving them. Here's their direct line for blacklisting.... Also got a call from $otherPerson at $sameCompany today and they are just as bad. Here's their number too."
But in other cases it comes from a central number...

Vetting the number could require two proven members' votes. Not an old account (from that person let go that's on here) and a new account (obviously being used to create the second vote)... not two brand new accounts. But two proven accounts that show some history and diversity on other posts. Like if @scottalanmiller & @RojoLoco voted that $company get put on the list. We know they are legit accounts, so the company gets entered on the list.
If a company rep requests their name be removed, then a whole different process comes down the pike of how they can get their name removed. One of those bullet points on the to-do list on how to get off the blacklist.... probably stop harassing people.

Most sales reps, in my region, are on the field, for most parts . So, when we get cold calls, it's usually from their cell number ..

Perfect... then their number could get specifically blocked, and not affect their rest of their company with a company-wide block. However, I have had some vendors before where their culture is obvious. Every sales rep is taught the same and it is toxic. Everyone in the community knows about them, so they get a company-wide ban.

but, what if, I'm genuinely being harassed by a vendor, and I want to join this community based black-list, but just cause 2 old-timers on the community have never been harassed by that particular vendor, it's not black-listed
-
Also, what about regions ? Some vendors may not have presence in certain regions, or they may have presence in just a certain region, but may still harass via repeated calls...What if I want to have the vendor's number black-listed, and no one else is from that region ?

Doesn't have to be an old timer at all. I'm just suggesting that there is some determining factor such as community involvement to some degree which suggests the account(s) aren't created with the intent just to abuse the blacklisting process. For instance... two accounts voting on the entry of a vendor on the blacklist, and the accounts were created around the time of the vote and have very few comments anywhere else would hold less value than your own profile, which looks like you've posted around 104 times in the last 22 days (welcome to the community by the way!)
