He's very adamant that he is not an idiot nor a beginner but he's struggling to communicate, can't give a straight story, is doing really foolish thing and can't pull off even a simple file copy. Is say he's not even a power user, a step or two below "beginner."

I think that he is trying to cover the fact that he doesn't know what he is doing at all by holding back critical info in the hopes that we won't notice which makes him look even more foolish.

@scottalanmiller "did a quick search on "installing mediawiki centos" and look what shows up on the very first page: How To Install MediaWiki on CentOS by Scott Alan Miller"

He definitely didn't googled it! 🙂

              Bless him!

If you can't install MediaWiki/Docuwiki and it's pre-reqs, then you're clearly still in the beginner stage. His ego definitely seems to be getting in the way of his progress.

Indeed. He needs to admit that he is in way over his head and just ask for guidance.

And he runs a consultancy too!!

This is becoming far too common. Too often I'm seeing this scenario pop up on various IT boards:

"Hi, I run an IT consultancy and we just won a big contract that includes us looking after something called a "computer" but we don't have much experience with that, can you lot provide free tech support for us so we can make oodles of cash from the dumb customer?"

We were warned about that poster in particular from someone who knows him in real life.

I've heard people grumbling that the quality if threads "over there" was declining. This would be a strong example.

Really? Not surprising. He does seem to be a bit of a plank.

His profile says he has four years IT experience so is he really sitting at the CentOS screen that says "what media is the install on" and waiting for someone to give him the answer?
What happened to initiative and trying stuff out?

Four years since he was a failed intern, is the impression that I have. I'm not under the impression that has has ever worked in IT, including now.

initiative went out the door a while ago ( i was guilty of this when I first started) always asking questions instead of trying to find the answers on my own. But 4 years in, he should have those skills by now to be able to research first then ask after you get stumped.

If my interns can't show the initiative to explore for answers on their own I wouldn't keep them around. To be fair our high school interns do ask really dumb questions from time to time. But they are high schoolers and need to be "schooled".

not sure, the cyber power ups setup we just installed required (4) 208 3 phase outlets to connect to. I don't know to much in terms of electrical and single phase vs 3 phase.
I know we have 480v here in our shop for some of our larger machines.

OK I read up a bit on this.. something about two 120v lines coming together with a common ground, and the 120v lines are not opposite each other like normal 240 lines, instead they are identical, but 120 degrees off.. OK... my head hurts - Trig was never a strong suit.
