If you can't install MediaWiki/Docuwiki and it's pre-reqs, then you're clearly still in the beginner stage. His ego definitely seems to be getting in the way of his progress.

Indeed. He needs to admit that he is in way over his head and just ask for guidance.

And he runs a consultancy too!!

This is becoming far too common. Too often I'm seeing this scenario pop up on various IT boards:

"Hi, I run an IT consultancy and we just won a big contract that includes us looking after something called a "computer" but we don't have much experience with that, can you lot provide free tech support for us so we can make oodles of cash from the dumb customer?"

I think that "modhat" is the new term over there for "asshat".

At least we are being adult about things. Sean stepped in on SW, restored the post and all is good but nope, lets continue to have a little tantrum because a post got removed.

      Seriously?

I used to have a lot of respect for you Scott but this is beyond childish. I'm done here, please remove my account.

Who is "we", are you one of the mods that is upset because I have ethical issues with the comm mod requirements?

      Grow up Scott.

    • RE: phpIPAM for Managing Networks

      Looks good, nice feature set.

We use this where I work -> http://www.gestioip.net/

And it works very well, nice visual breakup of the vlans, easy to find IP's and add details to them.

We were warned about that poster in particular from someone who knows him in real life.

I've heard people grumbling that the quality if threads "over there" was declining. This would be a strong example.

Really? Not surprising. He does seem to be a bit of a plank.

His profile says he has four years IT experience so is he really sitting at the CentOS screen that says "what media is the install on" and waiting for someone to give him the answer?
What happened to initiative and trying stuff out?

I am amazed at how many companies are making grabs at this particular niche. There is a limit on how many can survive.

How many want to survive though? I suspect most just want dropbox or Microsoft to give them a few million to bugger off.

    • RE: What's your favorite wiki software?

      @scottalanmiller said:

But for pure wiki I prefer MediaWiki. It is the industry standard, very well known, handles code well and scales easily.

Agreed. It'll be even more useful when VisualEditor is released.

I've had my own cloudy version of mediawiki for about three years, it makes for a nice knowledge base to move from job to job with.
