NTG uses MS CRM. We have managed SugarCRM and vTiger in the past.

I'm completely in the dark about CRMs. I've never been exposed to one, either for use or support in the companies I've worked for.

It'll be like an ERP or your health data records system. They all share a lot in characteristics.

If you want to learn CRM basics and not a specific system, SugarCRM is very popular and is free and open source. You can install it on a Linux VM quite easily. Or you can install it to a system like A Small Orange with a single click. Getting access to a common CRM to play with it would be pretty easy. Then you can say that you have deployed it as well.

We are having issues with the Outlook connectors (not crashing outlook every single time you load it), this is for the hosted version.

                        http://www.sugarcrm.com/download
There are two options, which one should choose?

If you have a place to deploy it the community edition would be the one.

I don't have any place to deploy it. Probably just set up it on my Computer.

JIRA is not a CRM, it is a project management system for tracking software development.

All Atlassian products are for software developers. They exclusively make development software.

Jira isn't a CRM. CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management. Jira is something that is used to track software development progress.

How about Web portal operation (Share point)?
Where should i start learning about this stuff?
I read it last time @Ambarishrh is working with his share point farm.

In all of these cases, best thing to do is get a book, fire up a VM and start playing. Sharepoint is huge to learn and takes a lot of time and effort.
