I just need to test my firewall as a intruder who does not know about the details of the port which are enabled in the firewall.

Ah, testing is not related to "breaking" or "integrating" or "accessing." Using those words led us down the garden path.

I was wondering if something like this was ever going to happen.

It looks like it is trying to connect but it gives me two choices for a SSL cert when I do... then it give me an error. I will have to look into a bit more when I have time.

But this is tough, do that same thing in Spiceworks, for example, and treat people as peered professionals and people get really offended for expecting so much of them. But, the issue really is, that they expect so little of themselves ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think it depends on the person you are talking with on SW. I have seen a few topics turn into arguments that would have come to fists if they had been face to face. And I have seen a few where the OP was actually truly welcoming of the advice the others had given him.

If done appropriately, it can help raise the person's expecations and confidence level -- especially once they realize we had to learn it somewhere too.

Since you have that thread about testing out Vultr...

They don't explain it very well there but you can spin up a VM with OwnCloud already installed and ready to go.

It runs on CentOS 6, but still very handy!

Yep, I'm sure it's some of the same people using it. I really never understood using these it's too risky. If you need a VPN get a virtual server you can use or something.

In this case, it's because you want to select the country out of a large list, some of which you cannot easily get a virtual server in. Normal people can't maintain a dozen virtual servers around the world and build their own VPNs just to watch television.

@creayt That issue of losing data is covered mostly by all tools by default I guess. Manictime which I am evaluating now, has a backup restore option, and also a scheduled backup function. I can schedule the backup to go to my dropbox/One Drive or even an external hard drive if uploading to a third party an issue.

End of the day, its every users choice, which I understand, but was not in the side of moving all my browsing history & work details to a third party server. I am kind of a person who would love to look at a self hosted option first for anything.

I see. The slang term for that is a "privacy fiend" ๐Ÿ™‚

For what it's worth, RescueTime lets you configure it on a schedule so it ignores everything say, outside of work hours.

So if I understand this right, the only thing the SSL cert does it protect the login?

Just the really important bit ๐Ÿ™‚

With Two Factor Enabled, it's not that important.

I would say SSL is more important than two factor to security. A rapid replay attack will defeat two factor pretty easily in most cases. And it is completely vulnerable to man in the middle - to the point of doing nothing at all.

You are attempting to add NFS storage. Turn off root squash and make the IP address of the VMware server have read/write access.

Also, in the case of some partners, it's the partner doing beta testing, developing material for Pertino, etc. You can actually get some primarily support, not just supplemental support, with some partners.

I'm running an instance of Gitlab (https://about.gitlab.com/) for myself. It seems to be pretty cool as well. Gitlab seems to be not too lightweight, but it is still pretty snappy.
