Group Policy isn't working after Ransomware Attackposted in IT Discussion
We've rebuilt all of our domain controllers after we got hit with ransomware. A pretty big metadata cleanup needs to occur.
I ran
gpupdate /forceto see what errors it threw outThe processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\Domain.local\SysVol\Domain.local\Policies\{unique identifier}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following: a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller. b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller). c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled. User Policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were encountered:There are some shares in sysvol that don't exist anymore upon our restore. Would that cause the entirety of group policy to shutdown or just the application of said GPO's that are being referenced?

Seems wild that bookstack doesn't have import as an option between bookstack hosts

Just finished a survey about Cisco UCS and AMP.
How brutally honest were your answers?
Not brutally honest, just honest. Simple honesty was brutal enough

AMP seemed pretty cool but I have never implemented it. What about it are you unhappy with?
Hosed Hyper-V hosts and brought VMs used for Citrix Xen App stuff to their knees despite exclusions and turning off most of the antimalware engines. Short version of the story / technical shortcomings.
Yikes.

@JaredBusch I'd like you to give in to your urge to stab me in the jugular. 35.5 hours of being awake with no end in sight
At some point you become more harm to the efforts than good... you just need to walk away and sleep.. 6 hours.. then get back at it.
It has been proven via science* that the longer you work on a project without sleep that the amount of fukitol in your bloodstream increases.
I have still not slept and will not even get home until 8 or 9 pm probably. Completely out of every resource

Got hit with ransomware the day before I'm putting my two weeks in. Yikes.
Are you still going to bother with the 2 weeks, or just bounce instead?
I will give my two weeks and try to help them through it
Did you start working on it last night?
I have been up for 33 hours. No end in sight.

Watching some Drunk History.
WTF is that?
You've never seen it? It's on like six seasons now. Derek Waters interviews historians that are shit ass drunk and famous actors act out whatever the drunk people say. It's amazing.
Huh - never heard about it.. how did you?
It's super popular. This is the first time I've seen someone not know what it is

RE: Naming convention for VMs?posted in IT Discussion
Another thing I wanted to mention too is the need for an index of naming conventions if you're going to be using this with a large amount of different products in many different departments. It helps.
CX = Citrix
BB = Blackbaud
SL = SecurelinkFN = Finance Department
IT = Information Technology Department
AD = AdministrationI have an index created in our internal wiki where users can just search for the department name. It makes it easier for new hires as well as people who don't touch what they are looking for frequently.

RE: Naming convention for VMs?posted in IT Discussion
We have around 600 VM's. I try to name them something that is descriptive so I know what it is on a glance.
PSL-BUS-BB01 - Pete S. LLC - Business Office - Blackbaud01
I try to keep it to three characters for each thing. DC01 is also the naming convention for Citrix Delivery controllers, so I have BN-CXN-DC01, etc.

My thought was just giving some trusted people here moderator status so we can just delete it ourselves. there is at least 5 people willing to do this and we're on here all the time
