Android is too "free" for its own good. People are free to have it not work and no vendor is making sure that you get a reliable experience.

It's really true. It makes it amazing for hobbyists and people for whom entertainment value and flexibility rule. But for professionals and people who need a rock solid phone experience, it fails.
I literally use absolutely no Windows 8 apps. I hate them so much. So jarring and weird and none of them work well. Just a bad idea. I've tried several and not a one of them has had any value that I could ascertain.
I have yet to use any either - I haven't bothered to look through the store either.
There is no way to find anything. The store is completely worthless. If you don't already know about what you want and its exact name you are completely SOL.
I love it when I point this out to someone asking homework questions and just demanding answers. They don't care enough to learn or to understand. They just want answer.
As long as the server side doesn't suffer the horrible security flaws that the desktop does - What difference does it make what the back end runs? I don't really want an answer, it's just a thought exercise.
