I should mention, that because it's a regular HTML input box on our internal app, appending all those ignores is automated. We dont have to type it.

Upgraded from 18.04.2 LTS to current. Accepted default answers for individuals packages during upgrade.

Had issue with MC and the meshcentral-data/meshcentral.db getting set with root:root perms and this caused a few errors with starting MC from meshcentral.service

Changed perms to back to <user>:<user> and all is well. Don't know what would change those perms though? Either way, all is well now.

Is there anyone out there using OV non-company wide with spread payments?

If so, I am trying to find out if I should purchase all licenses that I think I MAY need upfront?

If I can add to my license (additional CAL's or Server License), how is it calculated if it is during middle of the license year?

All of our clients, and us too, run Open Value Agreement with the spread payment option. Company-wide was too restrictive so we never did go with it.

Here are the numbers I get using MS License Advisor (for part numbers) with pcm.com pricing.
Does that look roughly correct?

Nope. They just made it only make sense for open source projects.

Yeah. For open source, it works fine. The physical product is good, but just not the license.

Have to say, we've been testing Atlas, their "paid" service and it is unstable. So even their paid for product, if you pay to make it okay for non-open source projects, isn't viable. Like seriously unstable. We've had more outages in three weeks of testing with Atlas on Amazon AWS, then we've had with our in house MongoDB on Linode in five years!

XFS -

I use your document minus Hyper-V, DHCP and automatic updates (I don't install those packages). I differ by creating a separate 5 Gib XFS partition /myshare during setup along with the different info in smb.conf file.

Scott is right. When in dubt use rsync. Anyway cp is faster then the delta algo of rsync. Therefore the basic rule -if you care- should be: first time you copy go cp then always rsync. Even if cp fails you can restart with rsync.
But basically you do not bother and you go straight w/ rsync.

In this instance, it is a single VM doing three tasks.

This server does not get taxed very much. Network Monitor is more of a strain than email or file services.

I would highly recommend splitting these into three different VMs then. No reason not to, right?

So an offset to this is you can easily setup a linux server to act as your file server. So you can "save" a license here. The other services, Email (I'm assuming exchange) has to be run on Windows as well does SW Network Monitor.

Email is Kerio Connect. Now GFI. They do have a Linux appliance but sometimes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. 🙂

As for fileserver, I setup RBAC in AD and even with Samba 4.4, permissions are an issue. Like I mentioned to Scott, my lack of knowledge could be the issue here.

But you can easily replace SW network monitor with Zabbix or literally anything else, while using less system resources and not have to think about the licensing.

I will look into Zabbix. It's just that SW network monitor does exactly what I need so I stuck with it.

The biggest issue is it's forcing you to spend for Windows licensing which just doesn't make sense.

You are correct. That is why last year I started learning more Linux and create a goal for this year. I am tired of dealing with MS licensing for many little things.

Just Had a "Duh" moment.

Currently have vCenter 5.5 on a standalone W2K8 server license. That will be going away when I move to VCSA 6.5. This is not an OEM version so I can reuse that license. That will then provide me with the extra license to separate file server , email and SW.

The issue I have goes back to my original post in that I want to move the original fileserv1 VM folders to the local datastore. I want the NAS to only hold backup data only.

My current plan is, deal with current pressing issue of fileserv1 folders, my backup provider switches me to Veeam, I move to VCSA, upgrade ESXI Hosts to 6.5, and then begin to separate "roles" to multiple servers.
