Playing with Hugo today and I'm liking it a lot. Thanks for pressuring me to stick with it till I got it working 🙂

I got Hugo working well and set up in Azure DevOps so rebuild the site when I commit and push an update to the master repo.

I really like it. Jekyll was great too, but now I think I prefer Hugo.

Sure, it would help you get a job on our customer facing helpdesk

Yeah and that's about it. If you already work in any IT capacity, this won't gain you anything.

Like @Dashrender said train for the job you want, not have

I keep trying to train to be a porn star, but no one lets me.

There's someone out there that would pay for it. Nude tech talks with Scott... Lol

      Don't give him ideas....

      SaltStack but it lacks GUI.

I think MeshCentral and SS will surely solve alot of your issues

SS will probably be irrelevant by the time it's usable... if it's still a thing now?

Are you thinking SodiumSuite? or is Salt Stack really falling off already?

OH I was talking about SodiumSuite

    • RE: Resolved: Weird Website Redirect Issues

@wrx7m said in Weird Website Redirect Issues:

I have 3 domains and 2 sites with a weird redirect issue. DomainA1.com redirects to DomainA2.com using cloudflare page rules and a 301 redirect. However, it ends up at DomainB.com. If I go directly to DomainA2.com, the proper site loads.

The server is the one running cpanel with WP (on CentOS) where both sites and all 3 domains are pointed. Where should I look to figure out why DomainA1.com goes to DomainB.com?

Search everywhere DomainA1.com is configured in some way, and see if DomainB.com appears there by name or IP. Without knowing more, idk. Using a reverse proxy on the server? .htaccess redirect or rewrite? Lots of possibilities.

@IRJ said in Should SodiumSuite Be Open Source:

Not in a major way, but every little bit helps.

Every little bit helps to get the code done, yes.

But it is also an increase in cost to the company doing the actual core work.

That is the point that @scottalanmiller has stated o many times in this thread that you all seem to have no grasp of.

Of course getting amateur help makes code reviews much more difficult, but you either have hundreds of thousands of dollars to put into the project to get somewhere or you dont. I am assuming that $500k investment probably wont happen here.

      So what are the choices?

      1. Make it opensource. Get increased visibility and have some good help and bad help. At the end of the day, you dont have to implement any commits, however. Monetize using a SaaS model after a year or so of a community edition.

      2. Let it sit and wait until money comes, so you can monetize it better.

      3. Keep working on it bits and pieces at a time closed source with no testers. If it takes 5 years, it takes 5 years

      Waterfall all the way!

you can sift through them looking for options - you can also google through to find where to set options.. whatever suits your fancy.

RSOP needed as a tool kind of shows just how hard it is. GPO is considered one of those beastly things to track with any size shop.

Yeah, group policy can be set to target an object in many ways. The only way to know every GPO targeted to an object is checking on the client itself with gpresult, or rsop otherwise.

@scottalanmiller said in SAMIT: Do You Really Need Active Directory:

@Obsolesce said in SAMIT: Do You Really Need Active Directory:

So, if you get rid of AD, you'll also be getting rid of Group Policy and whatever else is in use with it. So, you'll not just be replacing AD and that's it, typically.

That's not correct, though. GPO exists without AD. It's part of Windows itself. You can, and still do, use it even when AD isn't there. That's part of the continuing myth that not only the part you point out that AD doesn't do what people think, but the second part is that the things that people think depend on AD, don't actually. SMB, GPO, etc. they all keep working without AD.

Right, but you know I wasn't talking about Local group policy.

Exactly - when you hear people talking about GPO they are practically never talking about local - and if they are, I've 100% of the time heard they specifically express that it was local GPOs.

Now - using Salt/Ansible/RMM to centrally manage GPO, OK - now we're talking about actual potential replacements.

Yeah, you can replace it all. There's no doubt there and I don't think anyone was saying otherwise. The question is how much trouble do you go through to replace something working with a bunch of different things and to manage/maintain it all.

@scottalanmiller It is is more about building things from scratch, test, learn and be ready for skills advancement and future firewall failures (just saying).

What? Your original post clearly specified production only use, which is what every response had to do with.

Now that you changed to usage to a non-production learning/test lab environment, behind a real firewall, that's fine. However, I'd question the benefit of bothering to learn how to use Zentyal in ways you'd never use or consider in production.

On Ubuntu 19.10, there is a brightness setting on the power screen in settings. But it doesn't seem to do anything. You can slide it, but nothing happens. Anyone having luck adjusting screen brightness on Ubuntu?

We've tested on multiple machines, all seem the same. Both Nvidia and AMD cards same lack of adjustment.

Running 19.10 and I don't even have a brightness setting at all.

I have it, but it affects nothing.

Laptop or desktop monitor? I can't imagine it working on anything but a laptop.

      Desktop

That's why. I know of no OS that controls monitor brightness unless it's a laptop/tablet/phone/etc. Never an external monitor with separate power source.

I'm not sure you're allowed to say this in the UK anymore, as it could be construed as age discrimination.

I can't imagine that being true. How else do you measure experience and/or competency in a field or with a given technology.

I think its to stop accidental discrimination against age.

That doesn't make sense. Enough experience is enough experience, regardless of age. Who is putting their age on resumes?

I would think that if you were planning on "moonlighting" or whatever, that could be an issue for a potential employer.

Planning on is different. Everyone has done it in the past. Employers assume that they are people who admit it, and people who hide it.

Right. However, putting your side gig (moonlighting) on your resume could tip them off that you would be doing it.

Yeah, its really neutral at best in most situations that I have seen.

Why would they care what you do during your time off so long it's not involving a direct competitor? Like if you work for fox News and your moonlighting with CNN... or wtf ever.
