A smart leader is not enough. You need both a smart and an altruistic leader.

My only point is you don't see any 60 IQ knuckle draggers getting elected to lead countries.

Come on, give Donald a chance 🙂

We got the Echo early on release day. We love it.

It is awesome. I'm thinking about buying some smart light bulbs next.
One thing I don't like is the inability to play music from Amazon Cloud Drive, but perhaps that might be enabled in the future.

I went overboard and bought Amazon Echo and Cyberpower UPS - Amazon had nice deals on these on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, I think.

Pretty funny that the website there doesn't list the value numbers. Like in single people with outages, or tens of thousands....

If it's 5 people... can that really be helped?

You can go through history. Most outages start at around 6PM. And these are just people that reported the outage there, most probably don't.

I watch it every night starting around 5:15pm when I get home until 9PM with no issues. Wouldn't be surprised if it's ISP Peering issues not SlingTV themselves.

Then Sling should take care of that. Netfix had these peering issues, but they were able to work these out.

The values are probably individual people. And it doesn't matter if it's 5 people or 5 thousand, if you're one of the people having issues.

@Jason AMC or Epix channels in the evening would hardly ever load for me. And I also watched it Roku, FireTV stick, iPad and iMac. It made no difference. And customer support was clueless, all they did was to give me a ticket number, no resolution, no compensation, nothing. In the end I switched to PS Vue.

I wish IP TV was further along than it is. I don't mind paying for content, but I want to pick and choose the content that I actually want, not prop up stations I never watch.

Hell I'd like to get my $15/month back for the crap sports stations I never watch.

      There is SlingTV

SlingTV sucks. Badly. I was a customer for 3 months, daily outages, poor picture quality, channels wouldn't load even if there was no outage. I would never recommend it to anybody, unless it was completely free.

Gotcha.. Thats what I originally thought. As I use to use SAMBA as file share server years ago and was fine for my windows hosts.

So then could really do away with dropbox up-sync. Unless they decide to keep 1-user account for backup purpose. Otherwise, all shares could be accessed over the Site to Site VPN tunnels

Still not truely seeing a good DAS thunderbolt unit. The Drobo 5D is a good contender. Alot of bad reviews; but appears to be from folks using it with Windows system with USB3.0. reviews for device connected over thunderbolt appear to be positive.

Unsure about their Hybrid Raid (RAID-6) setup though.

Any storage connected with USB - doesn't matter which version - is just a disappointment, and it's not restricted to Drobo.
Use SSD caching and stop worrying about RAID levels (as long as it's not RAID 5).

Do you need it to be run by the Mac Mini? I'm pretty sure the ReadyNAS does NFS storage which Macs can mount natively with a little program or script. They run a Debian fork under the hood and have Dropbox in their app marketplace as well.

NFS on OS X has its own quirks and is not as reliable as on other Unix systems. And you can forget about Spotlight searches without the use of OS X Server.

I would consider Thunderbolt DAS enclosure instead of SAN. Less complexity, much faster, and probably much cheaper too.

Microsoft File Server Migration Toolkit - it will migrate all permissions and folder structure.

Or you could set up DFS share and just let it replicate.

Thank you everyone for all the information.

Still confused as to why local storage being recommended over centralized storage on a NAS?

Because it's faster, cheaper and more reliable. And with DRBD or Starwind all local storage is in sync, so if one server node goes down, your storage and remaining servers are still up. If your centralised NAS or SAN goes down, all server nodes are down.

My wife bought me something similar as a birthday gift, but I've never tried it. For whatever reason I'm only buying beer in bottles, so it won't fit.

For this kind of application, I'd get one of these...

      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16896367002

$58.00, no drain needed, designed for the task.

I have 2 of these, one at home, one at work. It's a bit loud when in use, but it gets the job done better than anything I've used before.
I've used air compressors that guys at the shop floor use to clean CNC machines and parts, but these tended to blow away (literally) fan blades.
