RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
And as this interview has taught me, I definitely need to get the home lab back up and operational. @WrCombs you may want to look at getting a lab together.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Hey I had an interview today too! Local hardware distributor good track record looking to add to their tech support team. Their Corporate marketing manager recommended me for the position (Former co-worker, I wasn't asking them for a job) didnt even officially "apply" they just asked if I had a resume last week/ Went very well want me back next week for an in person walk though. (and hopefully an offer).
Now the questions going to become do I wan tot take a possible pay cut to go work for them? The job will definitely be a bit of a learning cureve but definitely what I want to do (more LInux admin and VoIP stuff which Im weak at now) -

RE: Will faxes ever die - cheapest way to forward a DID
@dashrender I can't seem to find a way to do this without using an account, either one of my users or creating a "service" account.

RE: Reboot on ping loss
@adamf If you get it be sure to bench test before deployment. It took a bit to get the timers set up such that the unit would NOT keep power cycling if no Internet (in case the carrier has a legit outage or needs to service the unit). I dont remember the exact setting but I had to set it for only 2 cycles and I think a 24 hour expiration.

RE: Reboot on ping loss
We have same issue at 2 of our sites. We have the older version of below at each of them; set up to power cycle the modem after 1 min and 5 min of no Internet:

RE: Will faxes ever die - cheapest way to forward a DID
@dashrender We moved all our fax/copper lines to Granite Telecom; saved us about 30-40% over the LEC. We have one line we pulled the fax from and do a call foward no answer to another fax line; that charge is $9.50/month plus LD useage to foward the call.

@gjacobse even in ham radio politics is key. I personally gave up the hosting website duties for our club due to similar politics, though still a member much less active than I was. In a way rest of the club saw the error of their ways and have asked me to re do the site but told them no. Might be best to just drop it and let it go

RE: VDI Options - Modernization
@jimmy9008 We in I-T want the app to go away. For only 5 users we pretty much ruled out Citrix from the start and VmWare really isn't a great solution for only 5 users though my co-worker is pricing it out. We're hoping once c level sees teh cost of either solution they'll say no and we'll come up with a different app to use.

RE: VDI Options - Modernization
@jimmy9008 We have a use case involving a legacy client/server app that we've determined we're going to have to go VDI for in order to secure it. One lousy app for approx 5 users that I hope we eventually move away from. We are currently reviewing Azure VDI for this and it so far will fit the bill though we had to go throught a lot of "hoops" to configure networking, VPN back into our infrastructure, etc. We have not yet presented budget numbers to the bean counters but Im hoping when we do they will see the $$$$$ wasted for 5 users and will force them to a new product.
