@scottalanmiller Awesoem. I must say, the earlier beta's were quite messy compared to earlier releases, but it stabilized around the last beta and the RC's were ok. Haven't seen any big breakage either with final, so it worked out!

We waited till later beta to deploy 🙂

I ave downloaded the NC app for my phone.
Where do I go to start using it? I see no options to start a chat or voice/video call.
Perhaps there is some configuration I need to do

edit: Nevermind NC Talk is a separate app from the NC sync client app

Well it'll do on premises. And it'll be fast. But should you pretend it's an old fashioned SMB server? No. Don't try to make modern storage work in a legacy mode. You'll be sorry. Mixing paradigms.

Command line update on CentOS7 just worked....

From the nextcloud root directory

sudo -u apache php ./updater/updater.phar sudo -u apache php ./occ upgrade

Maybe 2 minutes total.

Worked here to. Going from 12-beta2 to 12-beta4

Won't work for me because I have the improved directory security. You have to chown things back around for the updater to work.

Well, not fully of course, it is all open source. But the barrier to getting at the problem is a fair bit higher when there are hundreds of changes and some might or might not have a security impact vs you have 5 changes and you KNOW they impact security. It won't stop the NSA but might stop a script kiddie and at least give people more time to update.

I'm not saying it is a magic bullet, but it is widely considered security best practice to do it this way 😉

Anyway, I'm hoping for automated minor updates to solve this in a more elegant way. We've decreased the target on the back of Nextcloud users significantly with our security scan - only 3% outdated systems is a quite small thing to put time and effort in if you're looking to do something like ransomware.

@JaredBusch Hmmm, the post was mostly meant to also try and help ppl coming from, say, ownCloud 5 - they will get in trouble with the apps, finding the old tarballs etcetera.

If you're on 8 or 9, there is not much news because it isn't, or rather- shouldn't be too hard. Would really like to know what problems you had as we have to fix those 😉

Note that Nextcloud 11.0.2 comes early next week, Monday probably.
