      What is the specific error?

Application Guard and Credential Guard will use hyper-v to sandbox without actually enabling hyper-v.

There was no error. It looks like it loaded kernel but I can't be 100% sure that it did so completely. I would get the opensuse splash and it would just hang from there, never moving past that. I guess its just something with this machine at work because virtualbox worked perfectly on my workstation at home last night. They had identical settings so it was just weird and I was feeling like an idiot lol.

Yeah it could be the application guard stuff. From my experience you need to use bcdedit to disable that. And it's annoying.

I guess it could be but this is a newly imaged machine and other machines (but different models) work with the defaults also. So I wonder if it does not have something to do with this specific model or something in its bios. I glanced at the virtualbox documentation page just enough to make sure these defaults are what is suggested and they were. so it cvould be related to hyper-v but I am not convinced as other machines with the same image work fine. Who knows lol, its just one of those things.

@scottalanmiller I'm the same way, I get that habit from my Av days. I bought Allen & Heath mixing boards, QSC amps, and small Community speakers. This is all professional equipment and it had more options and lasted a lot longer. In fact all those pieces are still working today.

Yup, I can from the audiophile world, too. And it was often cheaper to get hifi gear than to get the crappy, sounds horrible consumer junk.

So i saw one vote for specializing in Cloud. Are there any other must learn technologies that would be good for someone with my experience?

The biggest factor will be... what do you enjoy?

I knew someone was going to ask this. Its the reason I havent specialized yet. I have about 30 books I have bought, waiting to read and study, because they were all interesting. They are on the topics of: Powershell, Linux, Advanced C++, 3 different Python books, 2 books on Git, Ansible, Voip(Asterisk cert book), Storage(have my SCSP cert book) and will probably venture to VMWare after that, SQL has been great fun when I use it, MCSA books from microsoft because I know I should and Virtualization. I read constanty from blogs to books on all these topics. I love playing with various tools in several of these categories. I know I'm all over the place lol but thats what I like and could see myself specializing in any of those if I needed too.

Gaining some additional certifications is always an option. Looking into something like VMware would definitely be worth the while.

@phlipelder that sounds like a cool setup. Yeah I'm not looking to go crazy here but it looks like I will be staying with what I got. I got a single PCi-e 3 something along with a couple 1 tb sandisk ssd's for storage with a bunch of fast ram. I thnk I will just stick with that formula for my next workstation

      hello,

I 've had the same issues, and after many attempts and trying most suggestions I 've found online such as uninstall hyper v, remove antivirus, run windows update troubleshooter changing bios settings for virtualisation, and clearing windows>softwaredistribution folder, fixing Windows corruption errors with DISM & SFC tools and restarting bits and windows installer... and nothing seemed to do the trick.. until I thought to try decrypting the C drive i had encrypted with VeraCrypt... and bingo this fixed it for me...

Sadly bad management doesn't get just how bad this sales person is at their job (after you show them that the sales person was clueless on how it all fit together).

      Can I haz money now?

And training your users, I didn't see that mentioned. That might be the biggest thing.

Good points and your probably right on the training

And beatings, user beatings are often necessary as well.

lol I will remember that but then some of the ladies might not bring me home made tamales and chocolate chip cookies...

Or maybe they will bring more!

      Excellent point!

For myself there is value in me running a good Raid system at home. Who couldn't use a little better performance and reliability? I will do Raid 10. The most important thing to me is the learning experience and I like knowing best practices if at all possible. However, there are still things to consider. Remember everything I do at home is to help me learn something else in case I ever need it and I just l lots of vm's in a Raid 10 system?

That's actually great for learning at home. Nothing is handed to you on a silver platter ready to go. That said, getting KVM and software RAID running is straight forward (notice I didn't say easy.)

GS has come a long way since even a year ago.

      New models this year?

They are always upgrading their models it seems. But I was referring to their firmware. The firmware improves with each release, and adds stuff that should have been there in the first place, as well as bug fixes as usual.
