    • RE: Fitness and Weightloss

Today is day two of quitting nicotine, and starting back on keto with IF simultaneously, FML.

I did keto from Jan 2018 - Mar 2019, then took a 6 month break to see what it was like to eat complete shit again. I actually didn't gain anything back, but it's probably because of the IF.

I've never actually been overweight (6' 2" - 200lbs, I just do keto to cut up a bit and to curb my GERD. It works the fastest of anything I've tried and it's sustainable long term. My blood work was perfect after over a year of keto with less than 20g of complex carbs daily. Plus I was able to cut like 15lbs fat without ever going to the gym. That was nice.

Been able to control my nicotine cravings by drinking bubbly sparkling water all day. I also want to punch someone, and am having problems giving a damn about many things, but ultimately I enjoy the challenge.

      So that's my day...

    • RE: Windows 7 Pro Lock screen not applying.

@shuey So I just figured this out this morning, and came back on here to tell you all I figured it out.

I did have to set that registry value to 1. The confusion came when all those 60+ machines I was applying the change to were already set up from factory as having the oobe\info\backgrounds directory made and registry value was already 1 on those machines. So when I encountered a machine that didn't have it already, I thought something was wrong.

      Thanks for the reply!

Finally bought RDR2 and have been playing Online a bit. There is no greater feeling than spawning into a session just to immediately get shot in the head, told your username is stupid, and called a pussy by someone who sounds like their father and uncle are the same person. Game looks great though! Really loving the hunting & fishing aspect.

Playstation had a sale in the store and I was able to buy Tomb Raider Definitive Edition (better than Shadow of the Tomb Raider somehow), Rise of the Tomb Raider, HUE, Dead Island, Dead Island Riptide, and Dead Island Retro Revenge (not a great game) for around $30!

It's only a matter of time before they send us all home for a while, so I got some mostly good games to play.

    • New to server builds. Making new DC on domain.

I have a new DC I'm building in VMware. It's on the domain and I'm trying to set up AD.

      Two things:
For one, it's pulling AD users from the soon to be retired DC, and I'd like that to go away.

Secondly, upon doing post-deployment checklist: Active Directory Domain Services Configuration Wizard to get AD services up, at the "Additional Options" page, it's asking where to replicate from. Problem is, I don't want to replicate anything, and there isn't an option to select "none". I don't honestly know what it's replicating, but my goal here is a fresh start and rebuild on every front. Can anyone advise?

      New DC: Server 2012

    • RE: DHCP Logic

@scottalanmiller Nah, you can set them outside the scope or in the scope. I prefer to put them outside the scope because i like to think i have my own little secret cubbyhole for IP's that no one can take, and I strive for super organization.

I have more experience than my coworker with DHCP, so I don't know why I let him try to convince me what I already knew was wrong. I think I forgot to take my B vitamins yesterday lol. Anyway, thanks for the reply's.

    • KVM USB Wake Issues

I'm having some issues with many of our KVM's not waking machines up. A full reset of the KVM is necessary to rectify the situation.

I've tried Uninstalling/reinstalling USB drivers, adjusting the settings for USB sleep and the like in Power settings, but no success.

One of the computers is not allowed to have the sleep settings adjusted because of security stuff, so that's not an option.

I've read about the issue being linked to our KVM's being emulated instead of Dynamic Device Mapping?

Is anyone out there using ConnectPro KVM's? With the presence of DDM, do they truly not have this issue?

With the issue being re-enumeration of USB ports, I'm wondering if anyone out there has written a computer wake re-enumeration script or anything fancy to deal with this issue. Please if anyone knows of such a thing or a possible workaround let me know. Going to play around in Windows Task Scheduler for a bit and see if anything is possible that way...

    • RE: User's PC is unstable

Given that the problem exists over a span of time with multiple machines I'd have a look at whatever she's been plugging into each of these machines. Thumb-drives, externals, etc. Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, skimmed over the thread a bit and didn't see it.

I also agree that moving rooms might be a good option, or at least running power from another one.

Did you check her work laptop out? Maybe she's passing files back and forth via RDP...

Anyway, sounds crazy, hope you get it figured out. Please let us know as I'm super interested.

    • Disabling Microsoft Edge?

Anyone out there figured out a good way to completely disable running Edge? Server Side?

A lot my calls since I've upgraded all staff to Windows 10 are people who are like "The internet site is not working, it says I need to download Java" . 100% of the time it's because they aren't using Internet Explorer and are instead using Edge because they look the same to the laymen.

I've decided to just disable it altogether with a simple GPO. But as you might have guessed if you've already been down this road, it's not going as planned. In short, it doesn't work at all.

I've already set Default Apps by exporting from a sample machine and saving as config for GPO, but if the damn thing is in their Taskbar, they want to click it. It's looking like I'm going to have to export a taskbar config, but I'm reading that takes away the ability for the end user to change later. I dunno.

In this case would the definition of "encryption" be relevant? It's pretty vague as is. This is super fucked at any rate. I hope all the bad things in life happen to that company and only that company.

    • ESXi 6.7 Troubleshooting

As some of you might know, I'm relatively new at Virtualization. With that being said I've just built a VM in the following environment:

      • ESXi 6.7 Update 3
      • Dell PowerEdge R840 with 8CPU & Xeon Gold 5122 processor
      • 64-bit Windows Server 2016 w/GUI (Desktop Experience)

I'm having all kinds of issues.

Accessing network drives is working fine, but right clicking any file locks the VM up. Trying to open any files prompts me that "This app can't run on your PC" as if to say it's not 64-bit. Trying to copy said files to the desktop of the VM via RDP results in extremely long transfer times which mostly fail.

      Allocations as follows:

      • 2 Cores
      • 30GB RAM
      • 3TB HDD

I know this isn't a lot of information to go off of, as I've omitted many variables, but I honestly don't know what's even relevant.

Where would you start to troubleshoot this? I'm very close to deleting the VM and trying again in assumption that the install was bust.

    • RE: ESXi 6.7 Troubleshooting

@travisdh1 it doesn’t. I know if you order them specifically for ESXi then they ship it with either an SD or USB (can’t remember which) that’s already setup as RAID 1. Definitely a detail to remember for the future. Pushing hard to go Virtual after this last Ransomeware hit.

@Dashrender said in Group Policy Object - Copy Database frontend from NAS WITH icon:

Is your manual process working for 100+ users you have now?

Yea, so we've been using this method for longer than I've been here, so at least 4 years. I was always told "you have to copy the Front End from the NAS to the desktop, if you create a shortcut to it, bad things happen".

I bet - because when you do that - the temp file for the DB is on the NAS - and every person who's using it at the same time is using the same temp file - and that's bad, definitely bad!

See now we're getting it, I don't know where I went wrong at, but this is what I was trying to say the whole time.

So you solve the problem by placing the front end DB file to c:\DB\db.mdb, and create your shortcut to c:\DB\db.mdb with your custom ico file. problem solved.

Hopefully .accdb, not .mdb. AccDB replaced MDB 13 years ago, lol.

It's .accde (Front End), .accdb (Back End)
