Anybody has experience with ONIE/WhiteLabel switches? Dell seems committed to it...

I can confirm it. We pay 600€/month for 10/10 dedicated FTTH. The only alternative is HDSL 8/8, that does not work well at all. Even a little rain used to increase copper latency tenfold.

We have Cisco Sg500 500 now. We are upgrading every cabinet link to SM fiber, so we'll need more SFP.

I wasnt sure if they were serving the same purpose, just from different approach angles. So if this is the case, is there a reason to use capacitor SSD's in an array that has a battery backup?
No, imho there is none.

RE: Mobile Back up?
Whit a script like that and the application inside the snap, you can re-create your instance just restarting the whole snap after the unpacking, no further actions needed.

@wrcombs If you move the primary storage to the nextcloud instance, this is not backup anymore. How do you effectively backup the nextcloud instance? I use a script I made with borg that stops the service, dump the db etc.
Would you share your Script in a write up on backing up Instances of NextCloud for those who would like to learn more?
Worth noting that you don't need that much to protect the data. Like if you had photos, you don't need the DB to recovery them. The DB contains the metadata, not the files themselves. If you want to recreate your NextCloud instance, you need the DB. If you only want the pictures protected, you don't.
This is true, but I use nextcloud to share many things with my family etc, so it’s very practical to have the possibility to restore the db also.

RE: How to take advantage of virtualization. Major products get updated
@brandon220 completely wrong. Instead, use a couple of spinning rust for the Hypervisor and the SSD for the VMs.

RE: Fedora Install Issues on Dell PowerEdge R740
Same problem with Fedora 28 on Dell T330. Fallback to CentOS, everything works.

RE: Linux: Dropbox Headless
The daemom is written in python and takes forever to rebuild the db if you restart it… I had ~1Tb in 2 millions of files. The thing is, it keeps track of the file chunks of every files… sort of joins object storage and file storage together. Very bandwith efficent, but horrible on cpu and I/O. I switched to nextcloud that lacks that feature, but it’s much faster and flexible.

RE: Linux: Dropbox Headless
I used it for years. Be careful, the daemon sometimes suddenly stops working without any reason and without any notifications. Oh, you also need to tune some kernel parameters if you have a lot of files on dropbox.

RE: Barracuda vs Meraki - firewalls
The Ubiquiti is not an UTM in any way. In that space, the leader is Fortinet. No one can beat their price/performance for what they do. I use Ubiquiti in many places, but when a real UTM is needed I choose Fortinet.

you can just do
gedit ~/.bash_history
or if you like the cli
cat ~/.bash_history
Obv only Bash if that's what you're using.
Why conCATenate? Just use LESS.

RE: SSH on iOS
Prompt 2. There is also Blink that support the Mosh protocol.

Is this tied together with VMWare? I thought this was going to be usable on Fedora, for example.
If the Starwind software is running on Linux, the hypervisor shouldn't matter. You'll be able to mount the share Starwind it's exporting on XenServer or KVM just as well, but well all the experts just in case. @KOOLER @Oksana
I'm asking because Linux and SW vSAN are worded everywhere as if it's 100% tied to VMWare, with no other use case. I can't imagine that being the case, but am asking to make sure... perhaps it's worded like that because it's written by a VMWare Architect trying to boast and sell VMWare. Just wondering, because I was under the impression you can use it how you want, not just with VMWare.
I agree with you, seems like bad marketing. I’ll be interestes in using it with KVM, for example. I thing it will just export iSCSI.
