    • RE: Ubiquiti UNMS version 0.9.1 has been released

Just ran a fresh install on Ubuntu 17.04 and it worked just fine. Was using Debian 9.1 before... No idea what was wrong

@jaredbusch No, I'm doing everything local as a test run, UNMS and routers on the same network

For some reason I cannot get my EdgeRouters to connect, I always get connection timeout error...
When I log into the router it shows the correct UNMS server details

    • RE: Every other post on here is about Sodium...

@quixoticjeremy yours is about the only one. Anybody joining the community has no idea what SAM has vested interest in. Everybody here suggests products, it would be much better to be able to tell who sells what they're promoting. I can't remember the name of the company, but the WordPress provider convo last week was ridiculously long and heated trying to figure out the truth, when in fact it could have all been easily avoided if there was somewhere that listed who sells what...

What would really be nice is if you clicked on a profile of a "service provider" it told you exactly what services they provide. The Restoronix conversation could have been easily avoided yesterday if that were the case. Anybody could click on @scottalanmiller and see that he's got vested interest in companies X, Y, and Z.

      It what sense?

I'm sure it feels like type-2 in the same sense that everybody else gets confused about Hyper-V as a role. If you're installing something after the OS install, it feels like it's "on top"

    • RE: Whats the easiest/cheapest way to ship Ebay orders? (In the U.S.)

ebay shipping is nice if you plan on packaging and printing labels yourself. I believe they only work with USPS (which is the cheapest for almost everything AFAIK). I know other people that use stamps.com, I never have, as ebay was free and did everything I needed it to do.

You can buy the labels on amazon, and plenty of other places, pretty cheap and load them in your laser/inkjet printer.

Here is the super-secret single package shipping link. The multi-shipper thing is also useful, just not as easy as the single label IMO.

It was always far cheaper to package everything yourself, so we packaged everything, printed a label, and dropped it off at the post office by our house.

    • RE: Looking for virtualization advice

People always say that they don't want to manage the hypervisor and storage.... What is there to even manage? I've only used XS and Hyper-V, but every time I've ever set them up, they just run.... There is literally nothing to manage. Occasionally running updates is super simple on XS, an hour a month tops for 2 nodes. He's already planning for enough storage for the next 3 years, not like he's going to be upgrading that constantly, and if he does, just use move everything to the second node... Is there something I'm missing?

@dustinb3403 ah yeah, there it is... I haven't seen it before. Never really looked that hard either, since I just started using it with XS7.2. Hopefully it doesn't bring down my VMs to update like XC wants to since I just clicked it

@DustinB3403 Is it possible to patch with the community edition of XO? I thought that was disabled.

He could easily patch it from XC too and not break anything...

    • RE: Why Free Open Source Software Is Cheaper Than You Think

This thread seems to have derailed into a full blown PS/GIMP thread... but anyway, I know PS used to be drastically more expensive, but it is now ~$115 a year for the subscription. The vast online resources are well worth that cost alone. I can google anything in PS and have about a million different solutions presented almost immediately. This isn't a case where having a massive community of non-professionals is detrimental and can seriously break important things. It's image editing... if you get bad advice you hit undo and try the next guide. I use it about twice a month and it's well worth the $115/year.

Seriously though, there is absolutely nothing wrong with promoting a customer's business. Maybe a better way to put it would be "Hey, NTG has this really awesome new customer that does wordpress hosting, you should check them out"

      https://www.redhat.com/en/store/red-hat-enterprise-linux-server-virtual#?sku=RH00005

The "Self-support" version is still $349. You have to have a subscription to acquire the software. I'm curious what happens if you sign up for an evaluation and let the time lapse, does the OS cease to function?

      "Self-support subscription:

Does not include Red Hat customer support.
Does not include Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host.
Can only be deployed on physical systems.
Cannot be stacked with other subscriptions.
Is not intended for production environment.

@jt1001001 said in Sling.tv: My Experience:

Is it considered a "cable" account so you can log into the content providers apps with your sling username/password? For example , I can log into NickJr app on my table with my Fios account so the 4 year old can watch a show or play games.

Last I checked, you couldn't do this. Most of the auth apps don't even have our cable provider as an option, let alone sling.tv. You wouldn't need to do this anyway, because you'd just watch the channel on slingtv through your browser.
