      Thank's @black3dynamite

Is it the etc/hosts file that determines what is shown on the login screen as what the IP address of the server is?

My bad, you would need to make sure the IP address in /etc/hosts is updated too.

      Have you looked at https://1password.com/
Btw, I tried (actually paid for it) Dashlane...no thanks. Terrible, gawd awful support!

With this you can share Passwords very well. Bitwarden is pretty good.

Using Bitwarden collections is pretty awesome. It took a moment to understand how to use it correctly since I didn't bothered reading the documentation for first.

I'm seriously thinking they are holding out releasing a Linux version until history and open tabs is done.

I don't think people would care if the feature parity was the same across everything. If it's not available on Windows, I wouldn't assume I should have it. I prob won't use it anyway, just think it's kind of weird to hold back a whole environment because of a couple of feature flags.

Its either that or they working on making multiple install options like snap, flatpak, rpm, deb packages.

Microsoft has traditionally failed at this because they have to support every piece of hardware made for the past 10-15 years.

And legacy software - Apple just flips their nose at their customers, LOL
I say that last part somewhat in jest, as a complete NON-mac user, I have no knowledge on what was or wasn't needed to be repurchased after the processor changes.

Nonsense. Nothing need to be repurchased, unless software developer wishes to charge you for it. And even then you don't have to, you can stick to using existing software, that's what Rosetta 2 is for. Most software devs will provide universal binaries, like was the case after switch from PowerPC to Intel. And if your software is subscription based, you're covered. Apple showed native ARM MS Office and Adobe applications already, both subscription.

I just wish they had already announced new machines with ARM cpus, my 2012 iMac needs replacement soon. I don't want to invest in obsolete technology.

Yeah, this wasn't a problem 17 years ago, why would today, with subscriptions being the key way that people buy software, would it be assumed to suddenly be an issue?

There are users out there that avoids upgrading the OS because it will affect their 32bit plugins for a specific app.

We do, shouldn't, but we do because customers don't want to pay for better backups.

I was referring to this ^ Snapshots are not a backup, just like RAID is not a backup.

When you use Proxmox backup feature, you end up creating a snapshot before it creates a backup. The same goes when creating a clone. You’ll have the option to create a clone from a snapshot if available.

@brandon220 said in NAS for Plex use... Again:

I've been using Hyper-V for a while, almost exclusively. I use it at work, and for other clients. I have not found a good enough reason to switch over to another hypervisor. Sadly, its the only real reason I still keep a Windows laptop - to manage Hyper-V. Windows Admin Center is a dumpster fire IMO. All my HV installs are non-GUI.

I had Proxmox running in my lab for a while with a few test VMs and it worked great. I just have flashbacks of many people being against it for so long. I know that is not a valid reason to not use something but...

Again, with HV being free and having no issues with it - makes it hard to justify switching, although the web management of Proxmox would be nice. Another advantage of HV is that Veeam works so well with it.

Proxmox provides a builtin backup and it got even better now with the beta release of Proxmox Backup Server too. https://pbs.proxmox.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Don't even move it. Just use Profwiz User Profile Wizard to change the SID stuff in the registry.
Takes like 2 minutes and with thousands of devices I've never had an issue.
P.S. If it's a one off or so I'll just use the "free for non commercial" use version ( I know... ). If it's a batch I'll buy the licenses. It's about $150 for 50 computers. The commercial version can also be scripted quite easily to run from an RMM, PDQ Deploy, etc.

This sounds like the right tool of not doing so by script.
Sadly- a State Gov is not likely to buy such an application. Not to mention the timing, they would have had to investigate this application for six- ten months to ensure function and no adverse issues.

And as I said this is likely going to affect 200-300 people. Additional element is that there are four different browsers to deal with: IE and EDGE should be issues, it Chrome and Firefox might be. I know in the script I found- it addresses that, but it was a profile backup to external drive..

Firefox is by far the easiest to backup. Everything you need is in C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla

I’m a big fan of Snipe-IT. You can enable multiple companies support. You can then restrict assets and users to those companies.

Another option is GLPI (https://glpi-project.org) but it does a lot more like tickets.

During the install, Target Harddisk should show you /dev/sda and /dev/sdb. The default filesystem is ext4. Now if you want to raid those to drives during the install, you can click Options, click the drop-down next to Filesystem and select either zfs (Raid1) or zfs (RAIDZ-1) or other RAID(Z).
