    • RE: SSL Certificates - Who do you use?

We use network solutions but planning to move out of that soon! They have this "my time support" which is basically helps you to do the setup, but even if you don't want it, it keeps activating and getting charged, which is very weird. We cancelled this almost 3 times already.

    • RE: Best Linux firewall

@scottalanmiller Yes, have used it in one of my freelance project. They wanted an AD replacement as they couldn't afford windows licensing.

After some research, I tried Zentyal. It was a real good alternative for Windows AD.

Got a decent desktop machine, installed Zentyal, configured as main DC, joined all clients machines from 3 offices, (all nearby, and has shared connection from their main office). Also enabled jabber server+file server. All offices are using this without any issues. AD+Chat+File Server! 🙂
If am not mistaken, its Ubuntu based. Even though it has quite a lot of features including firewall, I never used it as a firewall.

We've been using ClearOS in our branch offices for almost 4 years. http://www.clearfoundation.com/Software/overview.html

Pretty straight forward and easy to manage using the web interface.

    • RE: WD external disk error

@BC I tried the Disk Management, Selected the 2TB WD HDD, it was not initialised. Tried to initialise the disk and got access denied error. I hope you read my initial posts, that I tried the same thing using Disk Utility on a MAC and dd command to clean the hard drive.

@nara Tried the diskpart as well but without success. I am actually checking Spinrite if that helps. Will let you know the results soon.

@Nara Tried on Windows, same issue- Access Denied! May be its time to get rid of that, but can't believe that the HDD is visible on disk management on both windows & MAC but can't access that! 😞

      @Joyfano Remember the golden rule!

Always take backup of any config file before you make any changes, so in case something goes wrong, you can always rename the backup file to original and check. 🙂

      dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/disk1 bs=512 count=2

Are you able to ping the server from your desktop?

She can see the site up now.

      This is the URL: http://119.9.77.226/

shows Error establishing a database connection.

      DB credentials correct?

    • RE: File change auditing on Netapp

I am currently using the Netapp with Windows DFS.

Users access it using SMB. Every AD user has a DFS namespace and added the netapp shares to those users, and the \servername\sharename added to their AD profiles to map to all users.

We do have slowness when accessed from a MAC through VPN which is a seperate issue which I am working on currently.

But file auditing is bit more urgent now.

We've been using it for quite some time. Really happy with the product and its support. May be one of the cheapest and best self hosted remote support tools. Once a laptop is setup, we manage the installations using the toolbox.
