      SO MUCH BETTER than Dynamics.

      Well, duh.

And, we're saving $$$ compared to Dynamics. Win/Win.

I know these are some basic questions, but the true underlying question I have is what use cases, are you all using SaltStack for?

I was just about to post this same question! Good to see some conversation going on this.

@coliver said in Ubiquiti VOIP phone systems:

They are Android based IIRC. They look sharp and the pricing isn't bad. I think @scottalanmiller had gotten one to test with previously?

I bought one to test with, and another colleague is using it now. The UVP phone looks great, and has the ability to install anything Android. The speaker phone is terrible though. IMO, it's more of an eye candy phone.

@fuznutz04 Do you think it was because of the mono speaker or just in general the underlying hardware?

Have you tried the executive version of the phone with stereo sound?

I don't really know. I haven't taken the time to really test with it, because I immediately decided that I wouldn't want to use one. For an executive who wants a nice looking phone on his desk, sure, this is OK. But for real world usefulness in a business setting, I would never deploy these.

For as much business we send their way, one would think that they would pay some attention. Or are we just small potatoes?

This was a first for me. I've never had any issues with "noisy neighbors " before. Or if I have, I've never noticed it before. Since this is s PBX, I noticed it immediately.

@fuznutz04 said in Vultr Sold Out Instances:

@JaredBusch for your clients in Chicago, do you host at different Vultr data centers other than Chicago? If so, what type of workloads?

The only workload I have on Vultr so far is phone systems.

As phone systems are one of the few true reasons to keep to a close datacenter, I seem like I go against my own complaint though.. That said I use Atlanta, Chicago, and Dallas because they have solid ping times to the clients.

I have one FreePBX instance in Tokyo that I use for test calls with no issues.

So even for a client in Chicago, you would use Atlanta or Dallas?

If they had solid ping response times? sure.

From my location (PA) I get solid 20-25 ms pings to the NJ data center. Chicago and Georgia are the next best at like 50-60 MS. 50-60 is still workable, I can't beat 20-25. The only real reason for me to go anywhere else other than NJ would be to split up the workloads in case of an outage at the NJ data center.

Right, but this only applies to things like VoIP or maybe RDSH. Any other workload you provide is not going to care about a response time like that.

Agreed. Specifically VoIP. Anything else, 60 ms doesn't matter in the least.

    • RE: RamBox

@JaredBusch I use OWA because I switch back and forth between my Windows Desktop at my home office, and my Macbook while I am in the office, and traveling. While I could run Outlook on both the Windows box, and run Outlook on the Mac side, I think the Mac Outlook version sucks. So, I use OWA.

So I'm booking a vacation next year, and there will be spotty cell service there. It got me thinking of satellite internet options. I found https://www.hughesnet.com/get-started#

I know it's a vauge question but does anyone else have alternatives for spotty cell reception when traveling?

    • RE: Replacing FreePBX with FusionPBX

@jaredbusch said in Replacing FreePBX with FusionPBX:

With the new auto updater, I think it will honestly remove all need for monthly maintenance. Moving service to a break/fix model only. So then you end up with a cost of only $6 per month and 20 phones costing basically nothing at $0.30 per extension.

I'm kind of nervous about the auto-updater. Although it hasn't happened to me yet (knock on wood), I have read stories on the FreePBX forums where an update breaks something horribly. I normally at least read through the forums to see if any recent module update breaks anything.

    • MariaDB - Remote connections from specific IP

I have a hosted Maria DB. (SuiteCRM) I need to grant access (read only) to the specific SuiteCRM database, to a specific user (new user) so that he can generate some reports off of the data. Ideally, I would like to restrict access to his specific IP, or just a few select IPs.

I've created a user in MariaDB, and granted the user Select access. What is the best way and procedure, to allow this user remote access to the DB securely?

It's been a while since I've worked in detail with MariaDB, so I'm not sure what the best approach is, or what the procedure is. Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks!

@travisdh1 This system has high usage. I fully expect it to fill up rapidly.

Ah, ok. Yeah, block is probably your most efficient use of resources for this then.

vgcreate /dev/sdb #I'm assuming the new block storage will show up as an sd device
      vgextend /dev/sdb vg_data
      lvextend lv_root -l +95%FREE
      resize2fs /dev/vg_data/lv_root

Shouldn't take much time at all. As always, we'd want to have a backup available before touching storage things.

I'm going to give this a test on a test system just because I have never dealt with Vultr block storage. Then if all is well, I'll give this a go.

I'm assuming if there is an issue with block storage (like there was earlier this week with the NJ data center) that it would cause the VPS to crash. Hopefully this isn't the case. 🙂

Glad to help. LVM is one of my big knowledge wheelhouses if you can't tell.

I noticed. Before I met you this year, I watched your LVM presentation from Mangocon 2016.

@travisdh1 Ah nice. Will do. I want to learn a lot more about it, so I'll take your advice.

The amount of options is almost staggering. Even more, ZFS, brtfs and a number of other filesystems have just as many options and choices to make.

Yeah, one at a time. I've worked with ZFS in the past, but it was when I was using FreeNAS back in the day.
