Fax Issues
-
I have a crappy HP 1536dnf MFP. I was told that the user does not receive faxes. I called the fax machine from my phone and heard the fax tone. When I attempt to actually send a fax it gives me a no response/busy reply. I checked the number of rings and it's set to 3. I changed that to test and it still didn't work. I sent from multiple fax machines thinking that maybe if one were able to send color faxes the B&W MFP may not have been able to interpret it but that is not the case. Could this be a line quality problem? Any ideas? The fax machine is in the same building as me.

@wirestyle22 Have to ask, is it connected via a POTS line or SIP/VOIP?

I'm assuming you've done all the basics like restarting the MFP, trying different phone cords, etc?

I wanted to take the fax machine and put in in a different location to test if it's the line or the machine but they are also printing and scanning from it.

@wirestyle22 Hope it's still under warranty and contact HP support. Uck.

I have had some issues with this model (not this individual printer) and the formatter board so I'm willing to bet that is most likely the issue. Problem is when I call on the phone it picks up so I'm a little confused.

I mean, it could be that the fax portion uses an old/slow communication standard that none of the others do, but I highly doubt it from all the troubleshooting you've already done.

I have other MFP's (same model) that can be faxed to. It's either the fax line or the MFP but I can't test it currently which is annoying.

Did you do any other cursory tests of the lines, like calling and having the person answer, maybe whistle or something for a while see if there's any service interruptions or anything. Long shot but it's an easy test.

Long shot but it's an easy test. I did. I'm going to move the fax today to see if its the line or the fax machine.
