@dbeato Sorry to read 😞 But I cannot say I'm surprised.

And I work for an Healthcare provider!

My mother's worked for a hospital forever, and for years they had their own HMO (basically utilizing all of the area healthcare providers). I remember it being awesome (and reasonably priced), though, I'm not sure if it exists anymore.

HMO exists but with terrible coverage, but it is the reasonably priced. High deductibles is what kills it.

      Does that look reasonably priced?

Yeah, I have been paying for my own insurance the last two years and it is crazy.

I have been buying insurance direct since 2010. It has never been like this until the ACA.

Not it is not! I am paying about $1,200 amount right now with that type of deductible...

And the plan I had from 2010 until the ACA forced it out was better than the Gold plans in the ACA.

In my opinion, the ACA and [insert other ideas that deal with trying to get more folks with health insurance coverage] are trying to solve the wrong problem. The problem is the cost of healthcare, not lack of insurance coverage.

Why do you go direct rather than through your employer? It's insanely cheaper doing it that way, and probably much better plans.

You obviously know nothing about how healthcare plans work.

It’s been a while since I’ve ran numbers, if your employer is willing to truly give you 100% of your pay and not deduct their costs for the group plan, then it could make sense buying your own plan.

FFS, it is not a secret where I work or how many people work here. I've said it many times.

You do not buy group insurance for a company of 4 full time people. It simply does not happen.

                                Well we do.

And I am paid a nice hourly rate to compensate for buying my own healthcare. But that was comparative to January of 2010. I've had rate increases ($1.50 (little north of 3%) this year in fact). But it does not keep pace with this stupid ass shit.

As I said, above, I can pay the penalty of $2085 and come out with more than $10,000 in savings to book towards health care costs.

Even with two children we are really looking at this.

Actually, I had no idea your employer only had 4 full time people. πŸ˜›

                                    Well we do.

And I am paid a nice hourly rate to compensate for buying my own healthcare. But that was comparative to January of 2010. I've had rate increases ($1.50 (little north of 3%) this year in fact). But it does not keep pace with this stupid ass shit.

                                    Now your situation makes sense.

You obviously know nothing about how healthcare plans work.

Well, I know that my employer pays an F ton, and that I pay less than $300 a month.

I know who your employer is, I didn't know the size or how employers go about insurance. I didn't know they choose not to take care of insurance costs for employees. I've seen some that do, even with small size. No way of knowing for sure, I've never worked for your employer.

Yeah, I have been paying for my own insurance the last two years and it is crazy.

I have been buying insurance direct since 2010. It has never been like this until the ACA.

Why do you go direct rather than through your employer?

                                        Just, really? WTF
