Not really. barely more than a month old and a perfectly reasonable question for clarification.

Wow. Glad I found this post as our company does not have enough resources to purchase W10 licenses for all our PCs in our network. Has anyone else here went ahead and used the methods above to obtain a free license key? If so, do you recommend doing this for 100+ PCs?

@lucylu Please keep in mind, this topic is about a path to install Windows 10, you must make sure your licensing is compliant also. Installation and licensing are two very different items.

of course - but Scott's claim above is that the Win10 upgrade site basically - it fully does in Scott's option - does grant a valid license to the user - assuming the user has Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1 on their machine first.

And it is properly licensed. There's really only one way to say it: Make sure you are properly licensed PRIOR to embarking on this journey.

                    But not Windows 8.

As far as I know, anyone with an 8.0 license can upgrade to 8.1 at no cost. Then move to 10.

You're right - you have to be properly licensed on 7 or 8.1

It's not a new license key, it's making your existing license key into a Windows 10 valid one. It's still the old key that you had before. And yes, you'd definitely use this for any number of machines, it's not limited in some way to just small numbers at one site. In fact, purchasing Windows 10 licenses if you already have free upgrade rights would be pretty wasteful.

Two weeks left for those trying to go from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The Free Upgrade depends on the OS being current, remember.

Do you think those people who have not upgraded by the 14th will be UNABLE to install and activate from their Windows 7 or 8.1 key?

Notice how I didn't ask about any licensing issues. I already know that answer. 🙂

Likely the ability to upgrade won't change, if there was time/date detection, we'd already have heard about it.
