How to create a custom shortcut for terminal

      https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/question/9623/how-can-i-set-a-key-shortcut-to-launch-terminal-under-gnome/

I usually already have a terminal window open and just have gotten in the habit of hitting Ctrl+N to open a new one. This woudl be easier because I wouldn't have to Alt+Tab to a sessions first...

Yeah I felt broken when Ctrl + Alt + T wasnt working lol

It's Ctrl + Shift + T to open a new tab in terminal.

I just use the default terminal with green on black. The tabs label themselves. It's very nice.

Oh, yeah i read that wrong... it does in fedora too...

But ctrl + shift + T does new tabs in the terminal.

Here's my default list of packages:

            0_1527721645319_packages.png

            I also install Telegram.

And I have all of my dotfiles for zsh, tmux, and vim in Git.

I also install these GNOME extensions: Dash to Dock, caffeine, coverflow alt-tab, and easyscreencast. And I use the Papirus icon theme.

@stacksofplates I put Telegram on my NextCloud so that it is always the same one with me, automatically, wherever I install.

Interesting but you don’t have to do that.

Yeah. I'm just lazy and stick it in /opt. It auto creates the launcher so I don't really need to do anything. And once in a blue moon when I reload my laptop I have to unpack the tarball and do it again.

No, definitely not. But it works really well.

Yeah, it's crazy trivial to install.

And auto updates at that. Pretty awesome for a single bin.

Something else that is very basic and missing from Fedora. No shortcut to lock screen!

In fact, I had to install this first:

                            dnf install gnome-screensaver-3.6.1-20.fc28.x86_64

Then I was able to run:

                            gnome-screensaver-command -l

Which I have mapped as a shortcut as:

                            Ctrl Alt L

There has to be better way? I would assume that a package should not be needed for this.

With Cinnamon, this happens on Super+L

What's weird is there no option to lock screen from power menu. If you don't know the shortcut key, you can't leave your pc lol.

I had to log out to leave my desk since I didn't know default shortcut, until I had a chance to set up ctrl + alt + l

Gnome. It's solved now, obviously. At the time I didn't know the shortcut and there was no option on power menu. I wanted to use the restroom so I was forced to log out. Not a huge deal, but I feel like bitching about it anyway 🙂

I've had a ton of small issues making the switch from Windows, but I can happily say I'm 95% there.
