Not to beat a dead horse but: This is the response I got when I informed them that I could not provide access Via FTP.

      Hi Jon,

Our lead developer said: "With respect, the GUI of Wordpress is not the ideal place to do all of a websites maintenance. And not all tools are compatible with the GUI, like our particular DB find and replace toolsets. In the event of some form of failure, FTP is also the first source accessed to rectify problems. Additionally, all developers tools such as Coda/Sublime/Dreamweaver/etc are void without such types of access.

For highly technical tasks like speed improvements on a website, for a site we do not host, I am not comfortable performing such maintenance without my full toolset available."

Please let us know if you will be able to provide the requested access.

Lol... Dreamweaver? Are they a bunch of 10-year olds?

Wtf would they use Dreamweaver for editing WP content?

Why do they need to worry about server and/or website availlability failure if they are only worrying about SEO?

I would never contact them again. Definitely a scam and definitely nobody I would want touching my websites.

Does Dreamweaver still exist? I was wondering that before you even posted this...lol

      I prefer Frontpage 😉

I think it actually does. I looked into this years ago wondering if any of those old tools still existed. No idea what use it would be today, though.

Haha. I think I was literally 10 when I was playing with DW. At 11 I switched to Frontpage.

The bottom line is generally.... just make good content. If your content is good, your SEO will be good.

Kind of, but you can improve ranking by including what you are trying to rank for in the content.

It's not a scan. As people have mentioned, Yoast has great writeups on this.

Moz also has a bunch of great stuff.

SEO "as a thing" is not a scam, SEO as a thing you hire companies to do, is a scam. You can't hire this out, it's not realistically plausible. SEO is something you do, not something you buy.

SEO companies are con artists. It's like three card monte. Hiding a card in a shuffle is a real thing, but that game on the street is a con.
